And yet they are reprinted every few years. It isn't urgent (it's history...), but it should be fixed.
America needs to note when it's using its pointless M/D/Y system. It's as different as inches to centimeters (except even more irrational).
Quote:I'm not sure how translating a date format equates to "how we prefer things to happen" in history. It's a fucking date, and it's the "name" of the event "9/11" which people love to note as "9-1-1" that would stay the same. If they can't understand the date aspect of it, they can certainly understand that in the US, 9-1-1 is our emergency code.
I like blue more than red, so george washington wore a blue coat.
Some school board members in texas even wanted to edit out Thomas Edison. Russia's past is unpredictable.
The date of it is incorrect, and leaves confusion. The name of the event is the 'September 11 2001 successful aerial terrorist attacks upon the Twin Towers (of the world trade center) and Pentagon, and the failed attack of unknown end destination'. More simply: 11/9/2001 terrorist attacks. 11/9/01. 11/9.
Never 9/11. That is November nine. Nothing remotely similar happened on November nine 2001.
Quote:Moronic is a matter of opinion. If I'm looking for something in a historical context, *I* would actually like the date to be first - filter things from biggest to smallest. What year? What month? What day. That's my opinion though.
French? It is indeed my opinion that french is moronic. I hate english too, but nowhere near so much as french. Y/M/D is entirely rational. M/D/Y is not.
Quote:Did the French or English come up with another name to call it?
How would I know? I live in america.
But how about 'Marine Invasion of Normandy'? MIN is a quick enough acronym. It's even faster to say that D-day, and a whole syllable shorter. There you go, an american came up with a name for it that isn't completely stupid.
I'm pretty sure this specific example is one of world stupidity.
Quote:I'm not sure how a date format changes the facts behind the event. It's a format. It's not a denial of what day it happened on.
Format changes everything. Everything changes format. Same words, different location. Entirely different message.
Agreed: It isn't a denial of what day it happened on. But it becomes difficult for people of other cultures (and me) ti read and understand what is meant. You put down '9/11', and my mind hits 9th day 11th month. M/D/Y needs to be abolished as an archaic ideal concocted by some madman... which it is.
Quote:If you get hit by a car and it makes the news, call it whatever you want.
And everyone else will just remember it by whatever someone else calls it. Me being hit is not an entitlement to declare a name in an intersubjective universe.

Our military is fucking stupid. Is this a revolution against mean old grammar teachers?
I'm thinking this is the case.

My gods... that is a sick contortion on the definition of propaganda.
It does not have to be organized (though it cannot escape bias). It is a term for information presented that supports or denies a thing. Said information does not have to be true or to have gone through the rigors of scientific evidence.
My mother feeds me propaganda that vegetables are good for me and that's why I have to eat them. Propaganda doesn't need any sort of evidence backing, can be true or untrue, and can be presented by either individuals or groups.
Propaganda is *information*. Don't cloud it up as some sort of necessarily evil being designed solely to mislead for sake of some political or social ideal.
