Had someone at work today say "Bless you" after I sneezed. Ive been having bad alergy attacks lately..anyone else?
Anyways, me and this guy have known each other over a decade now and he knows Im an atheist and is really cool about it. So I looked at him and said "Well...thanks for the blessing...but I dont think it will help me. The medicine the allergist prescribed me is barely helping as it is."
He said; "Oh yeah..I just remembered right after I said it" referencing my atheism.
I said; "If it cures my allergies then I will be VERY appreciative of it." and got a big smile out of him. I can understand the honest hope in some believers. Those who really want benevolence to spread.
I know it doesnt sound like much..but this is how cool atheists and cool christians interact. In fact religion rarely if ever comes up as a topic between us. I have had some christians say "I will pray for you", but the way they sneer it, it really means "I feel sorry for you."
Dont be an asshole atheist or Christian...be a cool atheist or christian....the world needs more of the cool ones.
*A hint on how to be a cool atheist or christian: Dont wear your beliefs on your shirt sleaves. In other words, walking the walk is more important than talking the talk.
