I'm not sure how one who says he is an atheist can believe that there would be anything after this life. How do you rationalize such a belief, how would it be possible for an after life to evolve or come into being without an outside force or being. Don't you think that you should find out the truth, would you want to know if you are wrong?

Speaking hypothetically of course but it is possible to postulate such a thing.

Premise 1/All life generates an electrical field and your mental activity is pretty much electrical impulses racing around an organic track.

Premise 2/ The planet Earth likewise generates an electrical field.

Conclusion/ when you die your electrical pattern is released and is absorbed by the Earths electrical field where it joins with all the electrical fields of the previously departed.

All of this arising as a natural consequence of complex systems arising as a result of simple systems obeying local laws. No god required.

And since we have evidence of all of the above I can make a stronger case for my postulation than you can for your god

There's all kinds of potential for "after" in the science - no gods, no demons, just energy changing form. Same as it ever was.

Well I hear you, Godschild. The thought of consciousness sustained outside the living brain has always struck me as unlikely to the point of absurdity. Nor do I think there is any 'electrical pattern' to be extracted and placed in some sort of machine or whatever to be preserved. To my mind when my brain is done, I am done.

So, are you one of those rare theists who values his relationship to God even if that only lasts while you live .. or do you think God can do the impossible and salvage your mind/soul/whatever apart from your body? Eeeww, I hope you aren't one of those who expects physical resurrection.

Oh, wait a minute, if you think God has a non-corporeal essence, I guess you could think we do too. Perhaps that part will be released one way or the other at death? [My preference, not that you asked, is that you just savor this life with God in it but as a totally mysterious presence. If after death you awake to the indescribable, you'll either get a nice bonus or I'll see you there.]

A Mormon? We have our very own Mormon on this site? How cool is that? Frankly I always though they were ahead of their time. Somehow, long before the comic books ever came out, they managed to marry the best of D.C. comics with the bible.

Not a Mormon, I'm a christian who serves in a Southern Baptist Church. The reason I'm a Southern Baptist, if you are interested, I believe that they stand closer to the scriptures, though I do not hold with all their doctrine. I do value my relationship with God here on earth but, will enjoy it even more when I'm finally in the presence of God, in a new and everlasting body. I gave being in charge of a galaxy as a possible responsibility given by God, not just to me but anyone there. Was trying to show Heaven will not be a boring place.
