The old "The world would cease to exist without the bible" probably works often amongst the sheep. Not the Harold kind of sheep, mind you: The kind that tend to work best as fleeced critters and sources of mutton.

If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...

Regrettably it has way too much influence. It would be fine if you zombies for christ just wanted to live the life the bible tells you to so that you can get your ticket to heaven stamped.
