Hmm. I'm not sure I agree with that. A mental disorder is not a disorder unless it causes you obvious distress. It might only be obvious to the person suffering it, but not all people walk around with that kind of monkey on their backs. Believe me, it is not just a matter of who deals with it or hides it better. Some people have it and some people do not.
On a side note, being bummed out sometimes is not a disorder. Getting nervous at something every now and then is not anxiety. Liking an organized closet is not OCD. Remembering something negative and having a negative feeling is not PTSD.

I think this is pretty naive, you magnificent bastard. Everyone gets sick but not everyone has a chronic condition. Conditions like depression, manic depression or schizophrenia are more than "life's troubles". My mother was manic depressive and there was no talking her out of it since it wasn't a choice or non-choice she was making. She had a physical condition which I do not have.

Technically, everyones on the autistic spectrum. It doesn't cause alot of people obvious distress but it doesn't change the fact their condition could be defined and classified if they were observed enough. The classification still counts as a disorder.
Keep in mind my point refers to disorders on every spectrum, not just those on the autistic spectrum. There is no-one on this planet to some degree who doesn't have some kind of disorder, mild or otherwise, and as a result consciously or subconsciously compensates for whatever it effects.

Never suggested everyone has a chronic condition, just a condition to anything from the most serious extent to the mildest that would scarcely register on the scale.

I think you are missing the point. For it to be a disorder, it has to be more than just something you could find if you looked really, really closely.
By the way, there is no OCD spectrum, depression spectrum or anxiety spectrum. Again, being nervous about something or even having a phobia is not a disorder. Liking something neat doesn't mean you're on the "OCD spectrum." It's simple.

I have extremely mild AS. In my case the negatives are negligable but the positives are undeniable. It wasn't noticed until I was diagnosed at the age of 17. Until that point it hadn't negatively effected me or caused any significant distress yet this is still classed as a disorder.
Ignore the wikipedia definition by the way, its extremely simplistic at best.
The point is I'm only slightly higher on that spectrum than most of you, that doesn't change the fact you're still on that spectrum and that you can be classified according to it.

Here's the thing, RD, I'm not going by any definition I'm finding online. I am going by definitions in the multiple books I have read on the subject of mental disorders. Autism is not a mental disorder, so you cannot use it to justify your argument that everyone has a mental disorder. No, not everyone has a mental disorder.

Fair enough.
They're not disorders in the true sense of the definition. Everyone has chinks in their armor is what I'm saying. Tendancies that make them more susceptable toward mental disorders than others would be that they compensate for.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diagnostic_..._Disorders <- This is what is used to diagnosis mental illness. A new edition is coming out soon with some much-needed changes.

Sure, everyone has chinks in their armor. Those tendencies are genetic or neurological. Extreme stress can also rewire you.
