RE: When I Get Proven Wrong
I totally meant antitheist instead of atheist not "theist" up there. Won't let me edit it now.

Of course, because the only times bullying should be allowed is when it's religiously motivated.

While we're at it, it's ok to lynch the nigger as long as you claim the Bible told you so.

Can't wait to use this catchphrase "the Bible made me do it"...

And I hardly equate someone like Tack with someone like these fucknuts, and I don't think you do either.

1. a mistaken or misleading opinion, idea, belief, etc: he has delusions of grandeur
2. psychiatry illusion See also hallucination a belief held in the face of evidence to the contrary, that is resistant to all reason
3. the act of deluding or state of being deluded

Pick any of these and you can nail any theist on this site.

Pretty sure Statler and GC are number 2 and do number 3.

1 is every abrahamic theist.

This is the definition of delusion, not delusional.

Delusional: delusional - suffering from or characterized by delusions.

Sure you cannot place Tack to any of these, I can.

We're just going to have to disagree on this one, because I know plenty of theists who seem to be able to hold god-belief in an entirely separate area of their brain and function on a thriving, even fairly scientific level (even believing in evolution) and it's not fair to call them "delusional". Subjective, based on the connotation you want to pull out of the word, but not fair.

Is their god-belief rather like still sucking their thumb? In my opinion, yes, but whatever. They're also not bullying children into committing suicide, and many of them are embarrassed by the actions of their "brothers".

Quote:I had just told the good RevJ that not all people who identify as religious are delusional.

You're right, they're not.The sweeping generalisation falls neatly into the definition of bigotry. It's ignorant, facile, intellectually lazy and divisive..

That so may atheists seem to believe that drivel is clear proof that some believers are not the only deluded ones. Thinking

000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Quote:A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs. The predominant usage in modern English refers to persons hostile to those of differing sex, race, ethnicity, religious belief or spirituality, nationality, language, sexual orientation, and age; and to those from a different region, with non-normative gender identity, those who are homeless, and those with various medical disorders, particularly behavioural and addictive disorders. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology or world views.

Look again at the definition, whether they believe in evolution or are intelligent doesn't change that they are to an extent, delusional.
Pad, look at the definition of delusional.

I'm not saying atheists are not delusional, I know I am.

RE: When I Get Proven Wrong
Everything is subjective. A Muslim would say a Christian's beliefs were delusional and vice versa. But there is good reason to think that someone who believes that a skydaddy started this whole game for us then gave us sin, killed his own son to repent us of the sin he gave us in the first place, is delusional. Do you see why, you can go down the semantics route if you want, but a delusion is a delusion, no matter the twist you put on it. Believing in anything without evidence is delusional(unless it comes from a reputable source), religion is just one of those things, most are delusional because they were indoctrinated from birth.

And yes, I know the above paragraph is subjective.

here's a psyche definition on delusion: 2. (Psychiatry) Psychiatry a belief held in the face of evidence to the contrary, that is resistant to all reason

Is there really not enough evidence to rebuke the bible and the 6000 yr creationist beliefs, and physicists, in this country at least, where fear of persecution because of a lack of faith is a non-entity, are almost 100% atheists. Telling yourself that people who work in a particular field that they are wrong and you are right on the start of the universe are delusional.

Christians have been trying to justify injustice for years, ya know, like with slavery & keeping women in their "place". Now it's with gay people. Although there have been exceptions like with Quakers/christian abolitionists who never held slaves and helped them escape. I don't have a similar example for women, though I'm sure some Christians have pointed to passages where there have been strong women in the bible and said "you are wrong" with that.
