RE: A Non-Violent Solution?
I've always liked the idea of wars being settled by putting the opposing leaders with their entire cabinets and military chiefs in a large stadium. They would be armed only with clubs and anything they could conceal in a bodily orifice. Last man standing would be declared the winner. The families of the losers would be sold into slavery or used as organ banks.

The event would be televised live on pay TV and make squilions.

Alternatively, they could have a nice game of two-up,with side bets.

Quote:Two-up is a traditional Australian gambling game, involving a designated 'Spinner' throwing two or three coins into the air. Players gamble on whether the coins will fall with both (obverse) heads up, both (reverse) tails up, or with one coin a head, and one a tail (known as 'Odds'). It is traditionally played on ANZAC Day in pubs and clubs throughout Australia, in part to mark a shared experience with Diggers through the ages.

PS: two-up is played in all Australian casino and is the fairest gambling game ever invented, unless of course you cheat.

In Northern Africa the conflict between Islam and Christianity has been violent for many years already. Some countries have an uneasy state of relative peace, other regions have mass murders on both sides (Nigeria, Uganda). I don't see a peaceful solution to this problem, I doubt anyone else does.

Which is why the "Leaders of these factions" should be put into a ring to fight it out...last man standing claims victory.

Would spare many lives the hardship of an inconvenient and unnecessary war

As to peacefull solutions, there is the possibility, you could always try and reason with them... Good luck reasoning with irrational beliefs.

Hence my proposal LP

Seems the only reasonable solution...since the "leaders of these factions" are so hell bent on destruction..let us see how well they fare in a one to one confrontation??

My problem is that I worry with the battlefield. Mabe we can put them all in Mars and plenty of wepons and amno for them to figure out who's delusion is better. Seems fitting to a planet called after the roman god of war. Big Grin

RE: A Non-Violent Solution?
If there is an answer to the problem, my guess is that it is 'education' but how do you educate people who are not willing to listen?

Much as I admire the courage of Richard Dawkins I thought his early attacks on Christianity may well have done more harm than good but I'm not so sure now. Maybe if atheists make more and more fuss about the lies being told to children and to the feeble minded there would be more publicity. Publicity seems to be the prime factor these days, not wisdom or truth.

How can we get high profile televised debates between theists and atheists? TV is full of such trivia that there must be a 'market' for more important programmes like this and they would be very cheap to put on. With an impartial chairman, an intelligent atheist would demolish any theist I have heard. Look how abysmal the Christians are who come visiting here or indeed those arguing on Christian forums.

My target would be Christianity simply because that is my background. Despite their silly differences, all three Abrahamic religions must consider that they all worship the same one god and are simply squabbling over which set of myths are less improbable. If you pull the rug out from under the feet of a Bishop, the Mullah and Rabbi fall over at the same time.

Perhaps we should dress up in smart suits and go door to door WITH A BIBLE SPREADING THE GOOD NEWS that it is all a load of hogwash.

Most of us have been 'taught' that there is a god so why shouldn't we teach that there is no god?

The trouble with leaders hell bent on destruction is that they're always too willing to let others to the fighting and dying for them. If the leaders themselves actually had to do the fighting, there would be no wars.

Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.

Both religions claim their 'god' has told them not to kill. Both religions studiously ignore that order.

Until they are willing to pretend to follow their own holy books, asking atheists what we can do is virtually inviting wise cracks.
