I've said it many times before ... If the government wants to end your life in this country, they can do so at any time. The freedom we have is mostly an illusion and you only get access to it if you play by their rules at all times.

Its almost like we should should just do whatever we want to do and hope that we blend in with the several million other people doing the same thing.

There are two ways to eliminate a certain crime, in my opinion: 1) Pass a law that legalises it. 2) Get so many people to do it that the government simply cannot arrest them all, and is forced to either ignore it, or implement (1). Hmm, lets see, pretty much everyone I know smokes weed or has smoked weed. Weed is still illegal... so no, it doesn't work. Hopefully that changes soon, I dig weed and would love to see the social stigma against it line up with the social stigma against drinking i.e. lessen to the point where it is not horrible except to a few lunatic fringe people that I wouldn't hang out with anyway. As it is the stigma is almost non-existent, but because weed is illegal there are many who vilify it.
Yeah, but Rhizo, it's a convenient charge to have sitting around when you want to leverage a harsher sentence on any given criminal. Gotta keep the prisons full, big business.
