That's not the point - the employer can't ask if you're on birth control, no. What they can do is deny you coverage. So the $9 BC I get at Wal-Mart would become $30 or more. Which is still cheaper than having a kid, but seriously.

Did No One See This?!

I can't see this working at all. It's none of your employer's business what prescriptions you have, and demanding to see one goes against your medical privacy.

I used to joke with the nurses that HIPPA is getting so bad they were going to have to put patient photos on the charts instead of their names. You are very correct. Being a union steward I have several times warned the employers and foremen not to ask why people have taken medical leave. There is a reason for privacy. If I get a head injury, and it gives me some mental problems...then the FUCK if I want my employer and fellow workers to know about that because who wants to work with a "psycho" (and we all know they would say that on the job) What if you got aids? All of the people on the job would be claiming you are gay. There are so many reasons why this law is wrong. ...and since when did birth control become slut pills? I'll add to that, outside of your doctor(s) and pharmacist nobody has a right to any of your medical information, not even your spouse.
Basically birth control is covered in my company's policy as "maintenance" or "preventative" medicine, which insurers are really pushing right now because it costs them money as well to pay for someone having a kid or getting sick, blah blah. What the employer would be able to do is say "no, we don't want birth control included in our policy - that premium everyone pays will not allow anyone who wants it to get contraceptives."
So basically I'm fine with paying a premium every month that allows my coworker to keep smoking and going to the doctor constantly for it because the same policy allows me to do my own shit and no one gets bothered. But if suddenly my boss decides that the smoking is okay but birth control isn't...I'll be finding another job. That's basically what I said in my next sentence. (March 16, 2012 at 9:41 am)thesummerqueen Wrote: That's not the point - the employer can't ask if you're on birth control, no. Then that would be a good example of an employer HIPAA violation. As stated previously, state law doesn't trump federal law.

"My Employees Don't Want Free Birth Control -- Even If Sandra Fluke Does" Says Catholic Non-Profit President Quote:FRONT ROYAL, Va., March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In violation of the First Amendment, President Obama has ordered all Catholic nonprofits to provide their employees with so-called "modern methods of birth control."

Quote:"Sandra Fluke probably doesn't know that the pill is abortifacient," continues Mosher, "But we do. We also know that the powerful, steroid-based drugs that she is so eager to ingest may lead to blood clots, strokes, early breast cancer and cervical cancer." Talk about grasping at straws. Furthermore, this motherfucking liar has also decided that Sandra Fluke is a whore, even though she was mainly testifying about a friend who needed BC for PCOS. Mosher is 100% grade-a lying scumbag. Also, do you know what they call people who practice "Natural Family Planning"? Parents. Of course it's endorsed by the Catholic church you moron, it doesn't work!
