Lets put it like this;some of the debates you get into are so funny especially when it is a silly matter.I get a good laugh though my friend.

How so?

If you WANT to continue this and not agree to disagree then fine...once again:

Premise:

'Faith is belief without evidence - and that's irrational. So the term 'rational faith' is an oxymoron.'

That's WHEN faith is defined as ONLY 'belief without evidence'.

Faith is personal proposition based upon belief.

Belief is based upon a personal decision in the absence of evidence.

A personal decision only makes sense if a rational agent has the ability to make that choice freely.

As, apparently there is no free will, the word faith can have no meaning and therefore the phrase Rational Faith cannot be an oxymoron.

With or without 'free will' it doesn't make a difference to the meaning of 'faith' so 'rational faith' is still an oxymoron.

Because we evidently have personal decisions in this universe with or without free will. Whether we actually have any CHOICE in the matter is irrelevant. What we CALL 'free choices' is still the same thing as it always was regardless of whether they're ACTUALLY free or not - (and I, of course - do not believe they are as I'm sure you are aware!).

We still use the word 'free' regardless of free will or not for example. And if we have to 'make a choice' we still CALL it that regardless of whether we actually DO have a choice in the matter... or not.

Maybe I have free will but you don't. There's an idea. After all, we're all different aren't we?

Anyway, with the greatest respect I'm going to withdraw from the whole free will thing.

Cheers Big Grin
