Why? Because you say so? Doing something just to save your soul or because you believe your savior wants you to is not a deeper sense of morality. It is pandering to your deity. A deeper sense of morality would be if you could figure out why to do good on your own.

Also, our reasons for our actions do very much matter. That is why we differentiate between manslaughter and murder.

And why would you do good on your own? To be unselfish so you might be more thoroughly selfish or because it makes you feel good. Tell me this increased sense of morality discovered with the purest intentions and deepest insight. BTW, a christian morality describe by Jesus and accepted by me is turn the cheek, if somebody takes your robe, give them your cloak too. Give away all your possessions and love everyone. This morality is quite different.

Are they still not punished for either crimes? Does the severity of the punishment correct the criminal's behavior?

I'm sure that there is a poor child somewhere who's grades (and thusly the rest of their life) would improve if you donated you computer to that family (in the spirit of giving your things away). Quality of the forums would improve as well. To answer you questions. Not always, and apparently not.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Completely wrong. Socialism means that someone else knows how to spend your money than you do and get rich while they do it.

But would that be morale?

Laying aside cheap spelling related jokes, that would be a matter of opinion. You painted the picture, you tell me. Forgive me if I'm a little less than convinced that you (or anyone that blathers on about it, really), have "accepted" this moral code. Sure, I see alot of people who love to talk about how great it is, but I don't see too many people engaged in the actual doing. Seems a bit like window dressing on the front face of a porn shop to me. All hearts and love on the exterior, same "products" on sale inside.

In short, holier than thou shit that some like to say, but probably won't be caught doing anytime soon.

:edit to be child friendly.....lol:

I do good on my own out of an understanding that it makes people feel better. I admit that makes me feel better too, but that is quite different from only doing good because I believe it will procure a place in paradise for my eternal soul.

Give away all your posessions, huh? I assume you have done this then?

I'm not sure what this has to do with our intentions being relevant to the moral standing of our actions.

Would you give up a guaranteed place in heaven to save the souls of a 1000 atheists?

If you say no then you would not be judged or punished and be allowed into heaven anyway.

This is much like the question of whether God can make a rock so big he cannot move it--not really worth thinking about because it relies on faulty logic.
Besides most theists would also want to save all the theists that are not true believers. Atheists are just a drop in the bucket of all the heathens needing saved. :)
