So it would seem. I've gotta say though, I set the bar pretty damned low. I'd expect a god to be orders of magnitude "better" than myself. That's always the trouble with gods, they're never any "better" than the minds of those that created them. To the people who waxed poetic about the abrahamic god and it's messiah figure all those years ago scapegoating and magic were absolutely real (and perfectly acceptable). This is no longer the case. I'd like to imagine that had I been born then and there that my mind would immediately discard such notions, but who's to say? Maybe I'd be the asshole tying things to the post. Luckily (for you I suppose) we were born a fair amount of time removed from those who (so the story is told) performed this bit of magic. This allows a person to conveniently wash their hands of the blood they hope to be bathed in, if one were so inclined. I doubt that many of us here would to carry out such a thing. (even if they were willing).
Speaking of tying things to a post.... Isn't the crucifixion just wonderfully macabre imagery along the theme? This narrative is about as close as you can get to a practical manual on sympathetic magic. What's the aim, the end goal of all of this? To avoid judgement (which was inflicted upon the scapegoat), torture (which was inflicted upon the scapegoat), and ultimately, death (which was inflicted upon the scapegoat).
It's no wonder this shit caught on with us......

My judgement, my torture, my death would not even allow me into heaven, let alone everyone else, but Jesus' life and sacrifice will.

Would you nail Christ to a cross, personally, or do you require scapegoats for your scapegoat?

I believe God to be more compassionate/merciful then to create such a place.

I couldnt personally do it, no, i would not. But if would do it out of his own will, for everyone, i have no problem accepting such grace and will acknowledge it despite reason and call it faith .

Why not? Let's say, for the sake of argument, that christ had commanded you, Centurion CRod, to crucify him. Christ had explained that this would provide salvation for all, including yourself (conveniently you already believe). All you had to do was rough him up, hang him to be asphyxiated on a T, and stab him once for good measure. I don't see the problem, you're willing to eat the fruit but not plant the seed? WTF is that?

Mystic: It has troubled me too, truthfully i try not to think about it, any reason still makes it absurd and any translation tries to make it seem different than it actually is.
I think me having a part in it and still receiving salvation would be troubling. So i would decline because he told me to break one of his commandments.

No, it's not rhetoical CRod, I want to know why you have an issue with this all of a sudden. Few pages back is was sacrifice, the greatest gift, downright holy. Now you're telling me you couldn't pull that trigger, "full knowledge" aforehand?
