Please present positive arguments why you think atheism is true
RE: Please present positive arguments why you think atheism is true
Hehehe, you may be an asshole, but I doubt it would be because of your agnosticism or atheism. I can't make such a confident proclamation of a believer, personally.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Not acceptable Fr0d0. You might as well of said "have faith" or "take my word for it".
Why should I believe it if it cannot be demonstrated?
That's because your own personal definition of faith is "umm - I dunno", where my definition of faith is informed choices.

ie it is the only logical solution to the problems posed. Not a problem of any science, as these problems aren't addressed by science, because science cannot address them.

Now you claim that this subject should be covered by science. So there the ones is upon you again... please explain how. Because the rest of science is against you.

So aren't you the one making extraordinary claims here?

Well I can see you put zero thought into that. What can be asserted without thought can be dismissed without thought Big Grin

Then it is unknown. You're claiming that a being is outside the laws of nature. Which is a heck of a claim.
You're thinking in exclusively materialist terms again. I'm 100% not talking in materialist terms.

Using unknown entities, presupposition of the extremely improbable without evidence to support it.
Physical evidence or non physical evidence? How do you prove non physical evidence Ace? If the answer is that you can't, then you just killed your own point. If the answer is you can, please put me out of my misery now.

By 'personal convictions' I meant more than what you personally believe, including claims about the origin of the universe; but I realize that your personal convictions logically include Christian beliefs, which you can accept on faith without claiming any evidential confirmation. I suppose I was making the trivial point that you have a belief system of which theism is a feature, but goes far beyond mere theism. Is this roughly your take as well?
I think theism is the starting point, yes. Theists believe in a diety/ies. How you get to that is the meaty bit.
I make no claims about the origins of the universe. I accept current scientific theories, and I'm open to those theories changing. That has zero effect on my religious convictions, because I believe that is another subject.

What are exactly the "problems posed"?

Angelo ..(Jireh)

Just popped back to see how it was going…

Sorry to butt in here ,but did I just see you state that the Bible does not posit a geo-centric model for the solar system…..
Extract from the end of post 213…

“The evidence is obvious.

(Mister Agenda quote) As obvious as the sun going around the earth.”

said who ? certainly not the bible

You did !

You said it !

You little tinker…

And you call yourself an Evangelist….

Please ……. allow me to correct you…

Joshua 10:12-13
Then spoke Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the men of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun, stand thou still at Gibeon, and thou Moon in the valley of Aijalon." And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation took vengeance on their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.

The miracle of Joshua appears again as a reference in The Book of Habakkuk.
Habakkuk 3:11

The sun and moon stood still in their habitation at the light of thine arrows as they sped, at the flash of thy glittering spear.

The evidence in support of a geocentric model is overwhelming here.
Joshua commanded the sun to stand still. He did not order the earth to cease rotating nor did he qualify his statement with the divine knowledge that the sun was merely made to appear stationary.
The sun was commanded to stand still because it is the sun that moves.

The Nuns would be angry if they knew you messed up on that one.

No Bible Bashing? Thats funny, because christians wanted to aolish atheism and have us murdered because we didn't COMPLY to what they wanted. I dont believe in god because science does it so much better. Creationists are stuck in a time frame where nothing else had to make sense in order to make sense, if that makes sense. (Haha!) Thankfully, we have EVOLUTION to dispute the claims that the early uninformed have presented. Oh Darwin, you own my little heart. :p

Also what claim have I made?

Uh huh, because I won't take what you believe on faith, so you say. I'm not bothered if you don't think I'm open to other things, you're entitled to your opinion after all.
Whatever floats your boat. Big Grin

That's your problem.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
