Oh, I wasn't questioning the advice, I was just saying, "Really?" as in, "You were really in that first thread the kid linked?"

Loads of people were. I personally sent him a message thinking it would be more personal, but I always forget they look almost identical when you check your mail... Oh well. I've never gotten a response from any of them I've sent out (to others in bad spots). r/atheism witnessed my deconversion, actually.

Poor guy, my parents are fine with it, neither believing and my father agreeing with the fact it's BS.

It sucks to hear about things like this. I didn't know that horror stories like this happened when I first became an atheist, so I just outright told my religious parents without even considering how bad of a reaction they might have to the news.

Luckily, they were apprehensive but accepting. They're pretty much fine with it now. They're actually more of deists than anything else at this point. My "coming out" has decreased their trust in organized religion and the bible, at least.

It's always unnerving to me to be reminded of how different my life could be right now if my parents had been fundies, if they hadn't been so accepting.
What falls away is always, and is near.

Also, I am not pretending to be female, this profile picture is my wonderful girlfriend. XD

Parents/grandparents flip out whenever you do something that is not with their values.

I'm much older than that the point when my parents actually care about exactly what I do with my life, but when I told them I was a Democratic Socialist, I was labeled as a Communist despite me being fervently anti-Communist. When I told someone else that MSNBC was just as bad as Fox News (apparently they watch I believe it is called the O'Rieley Factor or something like that), they looked at me in shock.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
