RE: Can YOU still be a firm atheist after watching these?

These videos would have if shown to me about 6 mouths ago but the fact is True death it when the BRAIN stops working and the neurochemistry stops which there is NO return, that's true death. Everything thing else can be revived but the brain, when it goes south there no return. Near death experiences are the mind playing with us, like a dream, nothing more. I wonder why the experiences are never the same.

True, although many are fairly similar, although I'll admit still vary a fair amount.
Would be crazy if all those people who thought they saw Hell were actually just - in essence - having a bad DMT trip! lol

So, a natural explanation is crazy, but a supernatural one is not? Think about all the presuppositions required to believe that a NDE is a real experience. A natural explanation requires no presuppositions, only the evidence at hand.
Seems much more sane, and rational, to me.
Here's a question for you. Why do Hindus, for example, have different experiences when they have NDE's than Christians? If an NDE is supposed to be a real experience based on the existence of a specific afterlife, don't you think that Hindus should have the same NDE experience?
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I think you misunderstood my use of the word "crazy"!
I really just meant erm... like it would just be crazy considering how many people believe it, and the status it's given etc etc, if in fact they're all just on drugs basically and we just imagined the whole thing! You know what I mean?

hoppimike, I feel like I need to ask you a few questions. Are you in actual fact a Christian? Are you trying to win converts by appearing more acceptable? If you are, it would be worth noting that this tactic has been tried before. It's better to just state your true position, rather than playing silly games.

I have to agree with Gringo here. I sensed this dude's smarminess in his first post.
No atheist feels compelled to invoke 'as an atheist' as a preface to comment; the dude's MO. Also, he keeps invoking the mantra of 'keeping an open mind'. He also went from being a 'ten year atheist' (his profile and introduction, not my imagination) to an agnostic after creating 8 threads here.
He apparently has no compunction regarding the ninth commandment.

This is correct!
And yes I did change from agnostic atheist to agnostic recently but you have to understand that during my 10 years as an atheist I didn't really think about it much (other than learning about science). Recently I've been thinking about it, hence joining the forum and hence the change!

ah here is the proper video of that Ian McCormack one:
It is pretty interesting but it does also sound fairly DMT-ish. All the tunnels and white light and such. Plus, everything that was said to him, he already would have probably known on some level already, I don't believe there was any obvious new information...
I dunno. I mean, there were some interesting DMT trips I read about (not NDEs) of all kinds of weird things like aliens, Heaven-like BEEHIVES... lol
Maybe it's just a REALLY weird drug...
EDIT -- Hm, I'm not sure if I can explain the way he still apparently spoke to God for like weeks afterwards or more... or how long he was "out" for. Hm...
