23% of Aussies are Young Earth Creationists

23% of Aussies are Young Earth Creationists
The Age back in 2009 reported on a poll done on Australians religious beliefs and when it came to peoples opinions on evolution. The results were a bit surprising to me.

23% believed god created us less than 10,000 years ago.
32% Believed god had an active role in the evolutionary process through a long process.
42% believe in evolution with god playing no role.

Among Australian Christians (who made up 51% of those polled) 38% agreed with the first proposition, 47% with the second propisition and just 12% with the last proposition.

Seriously?! It really doesn't seem that way in reality. I bumped into a creationist for the first time after being here for 5 years already... they're pretty scarce in Perth.

I hope that's not true. Well, I guess it's a good thing my pride isn't tied up in national identity.

Yeah, after some time getting to know some of them I now know where they reside Tongue

Just goes to show what a good job we did of cleaning out our religious nuts back in the day.
