Why should law enforcement training be based on all mistrust and presumption of guilt?

a cousin of a guy i know who played for the steelers, the nfl team of the city i was born in, was pulled over for ... well, i'll let the article explain.

either way, it was certainly not an isolated incident and it sucks balls, but happens more than necessary.

I had a black co worker harassed and hauled off by police for merely standing in a parking lot of a gas station parking lot talking on his cell phone. Ironically he tried to call me to verify his identity to the police, but I didn't pick up my phone because I had my mother waiting in the car wanting to get back to her retirement home. I didn't even look at the phone while it rang. If I had known, I would have answered.

Their excuse, according to him, was he matched the description of a suspect, and did not believe him when he showed his ID. He was guilty of being black and to say it does not happen is bullshit. Now while they did not beat him up, he was still hauled 30 miles from his home to county HQ to verify his ID.
