Abrahamic Relgions Ulterior Motives

It would seem natural, as an early civilization with no knowledge of science, that they would see nature as a god. No rain that day, we must've pissed off the rain gods. But when Abraham came along claiming their is only one true god, everyone thought he was crazy. Now, I'm assuming this god is not real. What would Abraham's motive be for creating this crazy religion where you must cut off the foreskin of your penis?

My research Abraham was based on a popular god "Ishum." Ishum pleaded with the god Ira, after Ira destroyed 2 Baylonian cities for their sinful ways. Ishum became a local hero to the people of Ur....which BTW where Abraham was from. The god of the city of Ur was the moon god Sin. That was the god of Abraham, the symbol used in the Islam faith. Cosmically Abraham is represented by the constellation of Hercules....it's all in the book.

Fascinating. I see the comparison to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in the bible. You say it's all in the book, which book do you mean?

The first thing you have to do is lose the idea that "Abraham" is any more real than the rest of the bullshit.
Indeed,or that Abraham was espousing one God. He was not. Judaism was not completely monotheistic until after the seventh century BCE.

Quote:I believe in reason. Just because I despise the Christian religion, I won't blindly refute it.

No one is suggesting you blindly refute anything. Rather,it is being suggested you demand actual proof. So far there is none. Many scholar today believe it is most likely Abraham is myth, like most of the Torah.

A skeptic and agnostic atheist, I make no truth claims about religious beliefs. I simply assert "I do not believe due to the lack of credible evidence."

PS; The word 'pagan' is from the Latin 'paganus' and simply means country dweller/rustic. (a bit like calling somebody a bumpkin or a redneck). The correct term for Sumerian religions is 'polytheist'

My apologies, I thought pagan meant someone who worshiped nature. Maybe pantheism is what I was trying to get at.

I could be wrong; however after reading the poem in the link...

I take Erra to be nature. Only nature can be so indiscriminatory about its victims. There's also the bits where warrior Erra serves, then ultimately rules over gods.

My initial interpretation may be wanting, but I enjoyed it.
