That's not exactly an analogy; they just seem to carry the same weight in terms of penalties.
Of course, at least it's nice to know that the RCC is halfway through the best way of dealing with paedophile priests. They're excommunicating them. But I don't see them turning them over to the proper authorities yet.

That's a twisting of a news story if I ever heard one. Its weird how bizarrely desperately the media grabs at straws sometimes to try to make all Catholics evil or whatever. 
Both sins receive the highest level of discipline, as they should. Do you want the Vatican to make up some super special ultra penalty for pedophiles only or what? One has added criminal charges attached to it so there you go. The Daily mail is a terrible publication even on the best of subjects.

They are required to follow the same laws as anyone else wrt reporting any sort of criminal activity.
Not all pedophile priests are subject to criminal law since consent laws vary. So for example, in some states boys 16-18 could still legally consent, but yet the priest would still be removed.

Technically it may be true. "Sinful" is a contrived concept minted by the RCC to describe what their skydaddy finds offensive. There is no way to verify or falsify claims attributed to the Christian God.
The rape of children is just plain morally repugnant as any person can recognize. It isn't necessary to ask whether the God this priesthood claims to speak for finds it sinful, and clearly anything they say on the matter is compromised by an obvious conflict of interest. The fact that the church would volunteer this comparison suggests that their good faith has indeed been compromised.

Where is the "atrocity" here? Again, what do you want them to do? This is just a bizarre objection in general--its not that they aren't giving child molesters the maximum punishment....its that other stuff also gets the maximum punishment and that somehow makes....abusing kids less bad? Is that your logic?

Actually, I'd be satisfied if they outed the criminals and turned them over to the proper authorities for punishment. Instead, they covered up the abuse and shipped the scumbag to a new parish where he could have access to a fresh batch of children!

Crimes should be weighted by the damage they do. The sexual abuse of a child causes horrible mind scarring (and some physical scarring) I've known many adults who were raped as a child. Some of them are still seriously fucked up from the experience (and they are older adults). It's horrible abuse that sticks with a person throughout their life and some people never come to terms with it. It's abusing someone over and over (sometimes) who can't defend themselves. Trapping them in a situation they think they can't get out of. Making them feel dirty, horrible, and worthless. The rage and isolation they must feel. I could go on about this but it would just make me mad.  Now let's weigh the negative consequences of being ministered by a female or having a female as (some sort of) overseer in the church......I hear crickets chirping....can anyone think of the emotional and physical scars that can come with this? What about churches that allow women ministers (preachers, priests, rabbis, gurus, blah, blah)? What damage have they done? Who have they hurt? I hear crickets chirping again...
