The very term conspiracy theorist is a stroke of genius. The second its mention no-ones interested, they switch off. It could be the most legitimate point in the world being made but someone mentions that term and it doesn't matter, its not going to be checked. Thats why Fox News use it to undermine disliked guests so much. I'm not saying your friend isn't paranoid, I'm just saying you shouldn't deny his claims before checking them first.

Well, in my country, such delusional conspiracists arise from the ranks of the far and central left, although I rather distance myself from calling anyone "centre" anymore, for centre is actually a word I use for the people who actually have no real ideals, but want to be a part of a side anyways.
The conspiracy is strongly tied to America, and everything that happens here is supposedly a doing of the US. Well, as with the times a while back when he Soviet Union was still alive, the leftists had developed their strong delusions associated with the US. As they were supporters of the Soviets, and it's interests everywhere, and even called for our country to join the Soviet Union(i.e. annexation). At that time, our country was a NATO ally, and had fought in Korea, to which the leftist naturally objected. Next came the little things we had to sacrifice for our independence, and protection from the Red menace, which were NATO military bases in our country, to which we also oppose today, as NATO membership has no real relevance in our eyes anymore. It was a political move of it's time, but now what good is the NATO anyways, besides starting wars?
The delusional leftists obviously do not realize that the circumstances of those times were different than the circumstances of these times. Back then, the NATO was a shield for freedom around the world. Now, it's essentially doing the same thing as the Soviets, which is furthering imperialist agenda, invading places at will, not unlike the Soviets.

In these circumstances, these people seem to think that there is nothing wrong with us, actually, and everything is attributed to the big bad US. I will not deny that the US has it's hands in a lot of country's problems, however it's not that the US can do these things if we don't let him. Like for example, they believe that the Kurdish separatist movement is actually a clever plan of the US and NATO to keep us occupied. On the other hand, the reality is, that the Kurds join this movement on their own accord, and that they cannot be trusted, but being leftists, they cannot state such things as the reality will obviously offend them, right?
Other than that, they also blame the US for coups and such, whereas the reality is really different. It might be true that the US was involved in the anarchy, but the Soviets which were at our doorstep were also heavily involved, by backing the leftists who were campaigning for a communist regime in Turkey, and possible annexation of our republic like our relatives in Azerbaijan and Central Asia. The coups have thankfully crushed these movements, and now the leftists are left with a grudge against anyone who had opposed their ridiculous ideas, with the US being the prime target the leader of the NATO forces during the cold war.

I think the UK would be better off sticking to Europe and letting the USA deal with its own business and get America troops home as NATO (UK) has been the USA's Bitch for to long. If the US has problems let them deal with it there self and not drag us into any war.
