Why are there so few Christians in Science?

RE: Why are there so few Christians in Science?
Not confused at all. I agree with the original stats. Your spin on them is what is incorrect.

The ironic thing, Drich: Your religion is (in)famous for forcing people to renounce things, and then killing them anyway. Your righteous indignation comes off as a cheap veneer.

So your say a Christian has never died at the hands of a nonbeliever for not renouncing His God?

If you were to look down from atop your high horse, you will note that It is very bloody on both sides of the cross. That persecution of a people for their beliefs exist, no matter what they believe. (Even in 'honorable world' of nonbelievers, against people of faith.) all that is needed to persecute another is a standing majority, and a sense of self righteousness. to which neither the believer nor the unbeliever is immune.

So long as you don't go the uberstupid route of using Hitler or Stalin as examples of evil atheism, I will simply say, get on with your bad self and show the math (and stop the spin cycle, please).

To boil it down, practicing science requires the full acceptance of proven methodology to minimize and banish the impact of individual cognitive dissonance, and must be built upon a very substantial body of accummulated knowledge across several fields.

Religoin is cognitive dissonance, and can not survive systemic and thorough application of the proven methodology to banish cognitive dissonance. And religion teaches what our accumulated body has already shown to be inappropriate to assume to be true.

So the reason why there are so few christians in science is simply because science shows christianity to be not bullshit in itself, but also by design propagate a method of thinking utterly antithetical to truth finding.

For those of you who are lost and need clairification.

I am alluding to the fact that I will be making two statement here. One repersenting the OP and the second repersenting the answer I gave.

Quote:Why aren't there more scientists that are Christian?
This is the summery of the Opening Post. It boils down to the quoted question above.

Quote:Stats were provided.
By the OP to support HIS QUESTION!

Quote:Point being made,
Meaning the Point I was makeing (Which follows,)
Quote: Scientists are not considered scientist unless they renounce God/religion.

Quote:I provided a story from the New York times to support this claim,
Which was my proof for makeing the "point being made."

Quote:Then you all support my assertion by calling into question this professor's academic abilities and over professionalism.
This is my attempt to underscorethe point being made by me now utializing facts taken from your very posts/responses identifying the very bigotry that was formally reported by the New york Times.

Quote:Everything that has been said by any of you has only supported my original statement. That you all believe that unless a 'scientist' renounces God he can not be a legitmate scientist. Therefore any polling with this prejudice setting the standard will be able to produce numbers that support the claim that their few if any 'true Scotsmen.'
the summary of my arguement with a final conclusion. I did not nor did I ever offer stats. I simply pointed to the stats offered by the OP.

Are you still confused of about the stats offered? Or do you need further clarification?

Again another fine example of the type of unsubstantiated bigotry I alluded to in my very first post. A scientist can not be considered a 'true scientist/Scotsman' unless He renounces God/religion, and therefore is not counted as a 'scientist.'

Do you guys not see the irony here? If so then why keep supplying me with such prime examples of the point I am making?

The irony is the fact that you don't get that fact that you continue to condemn the point you want to make.

If I was in work related environment, or in another environment I would agree. But we are not at work nor are 'we' in another environment. We are in an appropriate place to discuss such an occurrence. For all who come to the 'Christian' section of even an atheist website are here to chat about 'Christian' related matters.

Drich, there is no rule within the scientific community saying you can't believe in a god or gods. A few prominent scientists have. No-one in this thread has said you can't be a scientist and religious, you are putting words in our mouths. All that has been said is that science and religion don't gel well together, for reasons including the methodology some religious scientists use.

Quote:I have yet to see any scientist being forced to renounce god.

Most do so willingly because the concept of a super-duper sky-daddy is about the silliest thing that humanity has ever come up with and only frightened morons continue to cling to it.
