Chief Justice Rehnquist biased towards Christianity?

Since protecting and upholding the constitution is the main focus of the Supreme Court, it disgusted me to find out that Rehnquist always voted in favor of religion even when it was obviously unconstitutional. How did he stay in office that long?

The senatorial confirmation process is a fairly useless piece of theater. Otherwise how would we have ended up with an ignorant, sex pervert and crook like Clarence Thomas?
