Not a judgement just an honest observation, Maybe this is why your faith failed. Because your Master call you to service and you ignored your call because you thought His call to be another analogy.

Ok folks can I officially call this guy a dick?

Again not being critical of you personally, but if you have fallen from belief and at the core beliefs center around an alergorical calling to slavery, then it is not unreasonable to draw the conclusion that you were not ready to heed your Master's call to service, because you thought it to be alegorical as well. When you failed to show or ignored the gifts you were responsiable for, what was given or intrusted to you was taken back and given to someone else. Leaving you with a hole where your relationship should have been.

We are called out as literal slaves to sin. (In that our will has been given over to the parameters and consenquence of sin) To become Slaves of Christ. who BTW is not the task master from roots as most of you think him to be. For we are told many many time His burden is easy and his yoke is lite. If you conscribe yourself to God and find yourself more oppressed than when you were under the rule of sin then you might want to check to see if you are actually following the God of the bible and not some religious movement that falsly uses the name of God. That said know that as a Slave to Christ you will be called to serve. Not all are called to the same area of service, but all are eventually called to serve in one way or another.

Well, gee, this asshole is still trying to run away from the specific descriptions of people being sold against their will into slavery. And still proselytizing. And still trying to equivocate slavery in his fairy tale book to mean anything else but what it clearly was and still is: people being kidnapped, bought and sold against their will. I don't know why you put up with his shit.

Your conclusions you jump to are a bit odd. I was deconverted after reading up on theology. If your interested read my intro thread.

About all the rest why do you continue to insist I don''t know or understand Christian theology, specifically the theology about the slave analogy? Do you read anything I post? Is there any point in continuing a conversation with you? I'm talking about Pat Robertson's statement and what the Old Testament says about slavery and you keep ignoring the topic of this thread so you can divert it from it's original topic. I have found that this is a tactic used when people know they are loosing an argument and you were loosing the original argument. You also are using every opportunity you can to preach. Preaching is rude and disrespectful in that it shuts off any honest two way communication. It disengages you from any responsibility to listen. You can drown out the other people with your noise. It may make you feel better. It may allow you to remain in your denial of the truth because you don't have to even acknowledge there may be more beyond what you believe. Either way this is of no concern to me. What is a concern to me is dealing with a dick who does not give a damn about what I say. I am wasting my time with you. If you want to speak, speak to the air. If you want to have a real conversation you must listen. You can start by reading other people's posts, not playing little games (games that people on this forum have seen far too many times from far too many Christians who are loosing debates), and not preaching.
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

Pat Robertson says blah blah blah...I've got this thing where I ignore most of what Pat Robertson says.
You really believe in a man who has helped to save the world twice, with the power to change his physical appearance? An alien who travels though time and space--in a police box?!? [Image: TARDIS.gif]

Listen to the language you use "YOUR MASTER"

If you want to subject yourself to being a slave to an unprovable invisible friend you can. I hate the concept of "Master". I have my own brain and no one owns it, it is mine and mine alone.

"Allah is my Master", still sound appealing to you?

The entire motif of the god of Abraham is a slave master. You are his property and he does not owe you any explanation as to what he does or does not do with you. If you kiss his ass he MIGHT, listen. But even if you kiss his as bad things still happen to you. But if you try to leave him he will hunt you down and torture you forever in eternity.

As an idea, as a claim, not as any provable reality, the god of the bible is a sick childish tyrant and bully and his ultimate goal is him, selfish and narcissistic.

I am glad such a being is not real. I am sad to see after all the human knowledge we have gained as a species, people like you and people with other pet god claims, still want to project their tyrant on others and pretend it is good.

There is no morality in a concept where you have no control over yourself other than what the "Master" allows you. That is not consent, that is slavery.

Take your bible goggles off and actually read it. It is a vile book in which the head character has a blood oath with his minions and expects loyalty even to the extreme of the murder of outsiders, in the form of genocide, infanticide.

Part 1, Be a good Hebrew and no one gets hurt.
Part 2. That's not working, forget all the violent crap in part 1 I condoned or caused, I promise not to hit you anymore, in fact, I'll commit suicide for you, even though I wont die forever.
Part 3. Remember when I said I wouldn't hit you any more, I lied. Now be good minions and have a final genocidal blood bath in my name and the last ones standing who have kissed my ass get to do that forever in my minion club. The non believers the majority of our 7 billion I will throw in the garbage inferno forever because outsiders are just trash to be burned.

I like your summary of the Bible. When I read it I had the voice of Marlin Brando from "The Godfather" in my head.

Seriously though, the bit about god being your master and you don't own your own bodies, you were bought with a price, blah blah blah is so popular because of it's ability to manipulate. If you as a pastor can get people to freely surrender just a little of their freedom to choose you can get them to do things for you or you can can get people to think the way you want them to so that they will want to do things for you. It's a plus if you can get your people to get other people to do what you want - saves you time and effort.

I think you hit it on the head when you said "There is no morality in a concept where you have no control over yourself other than what the "Master" allows you. That is not consent, that is slavery.."

I rather thought that proselytizing was a bannable offense.

And who should determine what is a "livable wage"? You? Because if a wage truly isn't "livable", then either no one will work at that job or people will need to work at multiple jobs. Which I have done in my life.

Quote: You know, things a slave owner was bound by the Law of God to provide

And you can prove that this law was handed down by "God"?

Quote:In your world it is ok to give less to a man than a biblical slave would be entitled to

"Give"? Since when do employers "give" anything? They provide their employees with what has been earned. And what they earn is proportional to what they produce. Do you expect an employer to pay $20 an hour when the employee produces work that is worth $10 an hour?

But let's go along with what you're saying.... We can "give" all workers a bare bones living space with no electricity or plumbing. They can get scraps of food that are deemed inedible by the higher classes and they will work from dawn to dusk with no holidays, vacations, sick days or time off. Oh, and they'll also get no paycheck. After all, this is what a "biblical slave" would be entitled to. Right?
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.

God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?
