I would always defend your right to wear what ever you want to as long as it's not vile, to many children already see more than they should.

I have to go with the general sentiment: I'm not much of a promoter of my beliefs to begin with, and I find it reprehensible to utilize a tragedy in order to make a statement, even if I agree with the message stated. It strikes me as being in the same moral neighborhood as asshole preachers who drag out their soapbox to remind everyone that (according to how they interpret their dogma) Jesus told y'all this was gonna happen.

Vile according to what the majority of people see as vile. I did not say I would agree with someone utilizing a tragedy to promote their beliefs, I was talking about everyday life.

I don't understand what you mean by 'vile'. Sexually explicit? Graphically violent? What about a T shirt showing an aborted fetus? I find images of a man nailed to a cross pretty vile.I also find images of most fast food pretty disgusting.

In my country we have laws about what may and may not be displayed in public,especially around children. We no longer have anti blasphemy laws.


I would love to post some of the posts which appear on our cigarette packets.However, I think admin would remove them because they are so vile. (and really upset small children)

Look, this is not a theist vs atheist issue. This is a double standard issue that even atheists fall for.

BUT why do atheists accept that they shouldn't do the same? If Christian is capable of displaying what they are and we can accept at that moument it is not political or an agenda, why should their be a double standard, why should we not be able to do the same?

I think any atheist or theists who thinks there is no double standard is fooling themselves. Name me one public tragedy where we see atheist displays or invite an atheist to speak at a memorial?

When they do it, it is not political, but if we do it, it is? Are atheists a separate species incapable mourning? Are we incapable of extending our empathy even to believers at such a time?

If we are, AND WE ARE, then my intent and only agenda in this post is to get both believers and atheists to accept that we are equal and are the same species.

We all are the same, their are no differences between a believer and a nonbeliever, I'm not sure how you came to the conclusion I believed there was a difference. Tell me why do you believe that atheist can not put up a cross for the purpose of mourning, Christians do because it's a symbol of their beliefs, the cross is not exclusive to Christians as you say yourself so use it if that helps you mourn.
The people who ask a pastor to speak at a memorial do it for their own reasons, I have no control over that. I would say that there was no preacher at Hitchen's funeral. I would think many appropriate atheist symbols were displayed at his funeral and even some crosses if they were allowed.

Vile: a lot of what you described. Personally I do not like to see Christ nailed to a cross displayed on tee-shirts, though my reasons would be different from yours.
