Now that you have ridiculed me for bad arguments, so too should I ridicule you for that fallacious appeal to authority.

But I won't because I'm better then that.

Leave it to a person like you to degrade pure reason.

You've shown nothing of the sort. It says slavery, slavery is clearly defined, and you just want to feel better about it.

Slavery is defined as owning a person as legal property AND forcing them to obey. There is no evidence that the servants in the OT were forced to obey their masters and evidence for suggesting otherwise that I will not repeat, rather you can go back and look at it for yourself.

This proves you did not read my argument.

Oh please...

Your idea that anyone would pay money for a slave, then not expect them to obey them is pretty ridiculous. Especially because slavery was practiced by every culture in the area at the time. There are many non-Biblical historical sources that show just how slavery was practiced, and it is not the 'warm fuzzy' version you want to believe it was.

But I do have to give you some credit for your impressive mental gymnastics.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

RE: Does the Bible promote slavery?
Quote:If thou buy an Hebrew servant, six years he shall serve: and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing. If he came in by himself, he shall go out by himself: if he were married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master have given him a wife, and she have born him sons or daughters; the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out by himself. Exodus 21:1-4

Sounds like forcing slaves to obey to me. "You can go free, but you must leave your wife/children behind, they're stuck with me."

Quote:If a man beats his male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies as a direct result, he must be punished, but he is not to be punished if the slave gets up after a day or two, since the slave is his property. Exodus 21:20-21

Why did they beat slaves? For fun?

Quote:Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 1 Peter 2:18

Do you know what submit means? OBEY!

Want me to go on? I can. I can go on all day.

I'm guessing 'probably not.'
