Being a priest - a shameful path of life?

Charity etc. is often used as an argument to show that the church in Poland is "good". But we also have a secular initiative called WOSP here which collects millions every year and spends them on critical medical equipment for infants with heart defect etc. Secular charity simply helps people without poisoning their minds.

Could this guy in China be active with charity and the elderly without being a priest? Would he be able to help more people if he didn't waste his time on hiding from the government?

You are trying to show a balanced opinion here because your mind is well developed. But the ones you are trying to defend do not have open minds and balanced opinions as you could recently see in Indonesia with the angry mob beating up an atheist.

Of course he could be active with charity without being a priest. So what ? Child abuse can also happen without religion. So can witch hunts (like in the USA during the Cold War). So what ?

I can't believe this intolerance, of thinking that any religion, any church, any spirituality whatsoever is evil, and brainwashing. It's so narrow-minded to see the world that way.

You claim they do not have an open mind. Do you ? How is it open-minded to claim that anyone not sharing your world view is a brainwashed sheep ?

Yes, belief in God is irrational. So is the idea of True Love. So what ? Does this mean people saying "you're my one True Love" even though it's statistically impossible "do not have open minds and balanced opinions" ?

"its true face as a paranoid path of repression, self-destruction and disrespect for women." That is simply not true. I cannot believe how closed-off that remark is to the world around you. Nothing is all black or all white. Nothing is THAT simple. isn't it a bit too convenient that the people you disagree with just happen to be the worst possible thing ever in every respect ? Isn't it a bit too simple to just say "They're evil. That's it, we're done, they're assholes. All of them. Doesn't matter that i've never met them and don't know anything about them. I know better than them how good they are, and i know they've evil bastards." How is that open-minded ? How is that rational ?

I'm sorry to be this rude, i do not mean it as strongly as it seems by these messages, i wish they could carry tones... Undecided

I think he made it clear he wasn't making a generalization. When you look at the texts the Catholic church claims to follow it would appear to support all of the things that Rouge listed. The statements it makes regularly that stun people with their political in-correctness would do little to dispel this notion. I'm fairly certain gays and contraception aren't evil. I'm fairly certain aids isn't around for the reasons they list. I'm pretty sure women should be just as capable of becoming a priest as any man. Women are allowed in powerful positions in politics but religion? No, thats far too much a responsibility. They must be satisfied with being Nuns playing second fiddle in a male dominated organization with a reputation for paedophilia buggery. That is not my opinion, it does have such a reputation and not unjustly might I add.
I don't see "therefore all those who subscribe to Catholicism are evil" in any of his posts.
All I saw him do was express his opinion on the Catholic churchs conduct in Poland based on his experience. This is a subject he would know more about than either you or I because to my knowledge neither of us are Polish or have any experience of the Catholic church in Poland, please correct me if I am mistaken in this assertion.
Why don't you get off your high horse before you embarrass yourself further? Hm?

I guess my plan of starting a church to become a millionaire would be looked down on... Sad

But we could find it in our hearts to forgive you, if you bought us expensive holidays, drinks, and drugs with your ill gotten gains. Thinking about it that's just how the church works, its just a different set of people would benefit.
