The blockage of this system leads to a condition known as being "full of shit", commonly displayed by an unreasonable adherence to an ancient religious text. The only know cure is for the afflicted to pull his/her bottom lip over their skull and swallow.

So basically they have discovered a potential cure for Alzheimer's and Huntington's, some of the cruelest afflictions mankind can endure, by discovering that the brain basically has sewage.
