If they all shot simultaneously then they should all be held responsible. Simple as.
Some of the shots would surely be late (by a fraction of a second) and be hitting a corpse and not a living person. They're not guilty of anything.

Not in the least bit. I'm assuming here a gun can kill someone instantly provided the shot was well placed. I think that's a reasonable assumption. Therefore, I think not everyone will be hitting someone alive.

Um...under US law....
Quote:At law, an accomplice has the same degree of guilt as the person he or she is assisting, is subject to prosecution for the same crime, and faces the same criminal penalties. As such, the three accomplices to the bank robbery above can also be found guilty of armed robbery even though only one stole money.
The fairness of the doctrine that the accomplice is as guilty as the primary offender has been subject to much discussion, particularly in cases of capital crimes. On several occasions, accomplices have been prosecuted for felony murder even though the actual person who committed the murder died at the crime scene or otherwise did not face capital punishment.
A guy who is blazing away is even more than an "accomplice".

Oh well there you go. Then why are there so many guys shooting the one person. That's just overkill...

Because they wanted to. Why are there six cops in body armor pointing guns at a deranged man with a knife of some sort? Why did they stay in a firing line instead of spreading out so they could tackle him from behind?

In this country, they won't do a days worth of jail time. At the most a few might get fired, but even that is not a guarantee.
Here are the two reasons:
One, the man would not put down what is considered by law, a deadly weapon. That will be their justification.
Two, the relatives of a dead black man in this country often don't have the resources to press the issue and put the powers that be on the hot seat.
It sucks, but in this country if you're a cop, a celebrity, or any politician of note, you can usually buy your way out of any significant punishment.
I know ... it's embarrassing.

Last I looked carrying a knife is not a death-penalty offense even in fucking Michigan.
