More Domestic Terrorists.....

RE: More Domestic Terrorists.....
Real media takes their claims to impartiality very seriously, which is part of the problem. Accusations of 'liberal media bias' from people like Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and the entire Faux News team have pushed the mainstream media to the right and far out of neutral territory just so they can seem moderate. So, when Bill O'Reilly wets himself over-reporting how many people were at a Tea Party rally, the mainstream media picks up on it too.

For the most part, the U.S. doesn't seem to have "news" reporting, it has propagandists masquerading as journalists. A news station should never have an affiliation with a political party or ideology; that's not news, it's telling dumb people how to think and who to hate.

I often wonder: Do British news agencies come across the same way to Americans? I mean, does it seem like we're being led up the garden path, in the same way?

I hope not. I've been watching and listening to the BBC to try to get a real understanding of what's going on in the world.

I often visit the BBC's website. I find their coverage of American politics and news far more fair and balanced than what we get here in the states. When Wisconsin had the recall election, I went to bed before the results were in. I checked the paper and various news websites the next morning, I couldn't find the results right away. I found them first on the BBC, that was sobering and disappointing.

I've watched the news a couple of times on BBC America and it's night and day compared to our own news. It appears that you do have real journalists.

Don't worry, the BBC don't do opinion. Sure they get in people from both sides(but they normally just do news, not debate), but they don't gang up like FOX and forcefeed a message that has no basis in fact, they act more like moderators(watch Newsnight). The most important difference is that all of the presenters are journalists and are objective, they do not do opinion. You wouldn't really guess that the BBC's chief political editor, Nick Robinson, used to be the President of the Oxford University Conservative union, or the national Chairman of the Young Conservatives (although some have complained, i've never notices it, and i am a centre-lefty).

You'll never find a Hannity, Beck or O'Reilly over here, people would just turn over. Brits aren't really known for letting people tell them how to think, especially a hack.

I only wish that the British definition of conservative would translate to America. We don't have conservatives, they've been taken over by the religious right. For them it's not about conservative politics, it's about social conservatism. We end up having the same argument over and over about social issues instead of the important things, like where the country is politically, economically headed. Drives me nuts.

The problem with the media is that there are about six massive corporations which control whatever news you hear. And, guess what? Those six corporations are as bad as any other corporation in the country when it comes to promoting their interests over ours.

It's why I look for foreign news services like Reuters or the BBC when I want to find out what is going on here.

I don't know if I'm up to discussing corporations... I'm not visiting my chiropractor until tomorrow.

Agreed, except they're not really six corporations anymore. They all own so much stock in each other that they're all, basically, one, big, monopolistic corporation. They control the media and Washington. It really worries me because I don't know how to realistically fix it.
