Nothing special there, tomorrow an even stupider christian will fall through the door way. The miracle of christianity is no matter how lofty is its attainments in making human like beings stupid, it will always be able to soon surpass itself.
Yes, it does seem to be a pit with no bottom, Chuck.

It's in my freaking history textbook, First of all, there is zero evidence that "Jesus" was a real person. There is nothing written about him from any contemporary historian. There is no mention of him in any contemporary records or documents (and the Romans kept good records). "Jesus" left no physical evidence at all. There are no writings from him. We don't even know what he looked like. But let's put all that aside and say that "Jesus" was a real person. This still does nothing to support the fables of walking on water, healing the sick, raising the dead, being born of a virgin, feeding thousands of people with a basket of fish, being the son of god, or rising up from the dead and ascending to heaven.
Science flies us to the moon and stars. Religion flies us into buildings.
God allowed 200,000 people to die in an earthquake. So what makes you think he cares about YOUR problems?
Let's all take a moment for those that were crucified to save the souls of those that believed they were the children of God (respectively). In Chronological Order:
Horus (Date Undiscovered) Thulis 1700 B.C. Crite 1200 B.C. Krishna 1200 B.C. Atys 1170 B.C. Thammuz 1160 B.C. Hesus 834 B.C. Indra 725 B.C. Bali 725 B.C. Iao 622 B.C. Mithra 600 B.C. Alcestos 600 B.C. Sakia 600 B.C. Quexalcote 587 B.C. Wittoba 552 B.C. (Aeschylus) Promethius 547 B.C. Quirinus 506 B.C. Jesus 30-36 A.D (Mostly because the bible can't decide when he was born) Randy Savage May 21, 2011 (Death was not by crucifixion, but many believe he died for our sins to prevent the apocalypse...) None of these people (minus Randy) were ever proven to even exist outside of their own faiths and their corresponding religious writings. And really, Randy was added as a joke, but yeah, anyway. All of the men and women that died by crucifixion taught and acted in similar to identical ways with each other. Just wanted to make a point Jesus is not original at all. Well, except his name and the religion that spawned his myth.
I'm no one special and I treat everyone the best I possibly can, but to you believer, despite my acts, I am condemned to hell.

In Chronological Order: Where are you getting your information from? I cannot speak to other religions but Krishna, Indra and Bali are figures from Hindu Mythology, none of whom ever claimed to be children of god, nor were they killed for anyone else's sins - much less crucified. A cursory search reveals that most of the others don't fit that bill either. Whatever point you are trying to make would be better served if you get your facts straight. It would be more accurate to label them "self sacrificial- according to some accounts". An interesting side note on these sacrificial gods. The entire Meso-American pantheon committed group hari-kari for our benefit - so the story goes. If we're going to feel beholden to fairies, my vote gets cast for those assholes. Another interesting note on crucifixion, some gods were crucified (or crucified themselves) for their own benefit..not so much ours (que Wotan).

There is a book "The World's Sixteen Crucified Saviors" by Kersey Graves which makes similar claims but it was written in 1875 and later archaeology has discredited much of it. Much like jesus freak bullshit written by preachers masquerading as archaeologists in the early 20th century has been discredited.
It's here. http://www.infidels.org/library/historic...graves/16/ If anyone wants to bother reading it. |
