I think you can say that looking back, but when you're there and getting bullied you feel like your life is complete shit.
If I would go back now, the bullies wouldn't get a second glance (well maybe a broken jaw, but I don't like to advocate violence ). But at the time you don't know any different, so you think it is hell.

I never got bullied. Anyone who tried did not enjoy the consequences. I either beat them up or I made their life hell, like stealing their fags out of their bag, covering them in lighter fluid and putting them back... they deserved everything they got.

I only did it to the asshole neds.
A lot of my friends got bullied, so I could see the effect it had on people. It was usually those assholes I picked on. They don't mess with my friends and get off lightly.

There was a guy in first year when I was in fifth year who used to ask me for a cigarette everyday, with the promise of a full 20 deck the next day. It was obviously a bit silly, but I never really paid much mind to it as it was a sweet deal for me. My mate just couldn't let it go, however, and insisted that we confront the wee guy about the obvious stupidity of the arrangement. When I asked him about it he said that it wasn't as stupid as it looked. He was being bullied, you see. So if anyone went to hit him, he'd mention the fact that I relied on him for my 20 deck everyday, and that I wouldn't be too pleased if he was off school and wasn't able to bring them in. Apparently it worked, and no one ever touched him.
I told him not to bother with the cigarettes, but he could keep telling them that I had his back. Unless he made a new arrangement the next year, though, he probably got a year's worth of beatings when I left.

His asshole friends think I'm a narc even though my teacher found out who it was and I had nothing to do with it. (Luckily he only has like 2 friends that are seniors) The county put more regulations in my music classes which takes the fun out of it. This year I thought things would be different but it's clear they aren't.
Anyway, so now I'm the narc with a bunch of untrue shit said about him going to a high school filled with pseudo-intellectuals who smoke weed and have Ron Paul stickers to be cool. I know it could be worse but it really sucks when school is like that and you come home to arguments and yelling.
Anyone else have bad high school experiences?
I did but now I look back and laugh at them.

I've been out of high school almost 20 years, but I remember a couple of iffy days during that blissful time of life when you live for free, have no bills and you can still decide to do whatever you want in life.
Trust me pal, you'll never be 17 again. You have no idea what you currently hold in your hand. Don't let these stupid little problems blind you. The world is yours.

Man, If I ever could go back, sure I'd make alot of changes. Alas we can't
My advice: enjoy those years while they last, the good and the bad stuff, they all teach you something, and you can't undo what is done. Mine were terrible years, but still, I learnt alot from them.

First year: almost made enemies with this girl because I pushed her because she was talking shit about my best friend, and right in front of me. She forgave me a couple days later, though!
Second year: People kept spreading rumors that the aforementioned best friend and I were lesbians. My choir teacher asked her if it were true (we were getting ready to go to DC for a few days for a choir competition and the teacher didn't want to get in trouble for rooming us together) and she started crying. From then on, whenever I tried to hug her, she'd back off. Especially after I told her I was bi.
Third year: This was actually a pretty good year for me. I started participating in the theatre program (was in my first musical, which was Godspell. The guy who played Jesus was an atheist, too. ). The choir competition was held in Atlanta, which was a lot of fun except for the annoying redneck girls in my class(but of course, we were in the deep south. I should've known they'd get more annoying). To top it all off, I had some pretty high grades that year.
Fourth year: Pretty much the same as the last year, except no major choir trips out of town (not enough participants). Plus my grades were getting just a little rocky but I blame that on the senioritis. I also went on my first date, even I wasn't even interested in the guy (sounds more bitchy now than it did back then), I just wanted to be nice. And at the end of the year, I lost a friend after ranting on Facebook about how stupid it was to get offended at the word "goddammit". But I also gained a friend. My French teacher from that year, of all people.
In conclusion, looking back now, my high school years really weren't that bad. They could've been better, but not so much that they're worth looking back on and thinking about much better.
Don’t ask.

What Cinjin said.
While I'm sure it's different for everyone, you will never again have as many friends, or as much time to spend with them. Granted, I was really popular, but I still occasionally got picked on. But more often got involved in dramas, many of which seem strange in hindsight (including my own role in making many of them much worse than they had to be). Not to be dismissive of the very real feelings involved, but maybe what psychologists say about adolescence being a period of great emotional instability and social development is true, and the feelings have fallen away from my memories. Still, I would go back if I could. Not that there are no good times ahead of you after high school, but high school is special in spite of all the hard feelings.
