USAA provides banking and other financial services for as well as various kinds of insurance for US veterans or members of their families. I was with them for 10 years. While their services were generally good, they are extremely difficult to do business with because of ridiculously complex and very rigid security policies.
I got on a scam website this past weekend that pretended to be Walmart's website. I registered for an account for online shopping and foolishly gave them two credit card numbers. One was my debit card and the other was a USAA credit card. My Credit Union caught the fraud almost instantly. They literally texted me less than 60 seconds after I entered my debit card warning of a $950.00 charge and asked if it was legitimate. I texted back that it was not and they froze the debit card. Even though this was late Saturday morning, I had a new card with a new number in my hands less than an hour later. I can't praise them enough.
USAA was another matter. To make a long story not quite as long, they wouldn't even acknowledge that a credit card number was in the hands of a criminal organization. I had my userID, password and even a 4-digit pin number. But my phone number had changed and I never updated it so they couldn't text me a security code as yet another layer of security. Emailing me the code was not allowed even though they had my email address on file. In the end, I had to change my car insurance to Progressive and put a permanent stop payment to USAA through my credit union so they can no longer debit my checking account.
I did a little research and found that USAA has an 'F' rating with the US Better Business Bureau because of numerous unresolved customer service issues and a $15 million settlement with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau over their banking practices.
Veterans, do your research before doing business with these people. Their auto insurance policies are first rate but dealing with them is extremely cumbersome and sometimes flat-out impossible.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
