RE: High school sucks
High school sucked. I was suspended from school the first day of my sophomore year because my hair was dyed blue. Despite the fact that there were other students who had green and orange hair, I was the one singled out. Luckily, my mom worked for a law firm and got one of the lawyers to send a nasty letter to the principal with a vague threat of legal action.
I had "turn or burn" fliers stuffed in my locker at least a couple times a week. The baptist kids had an actual black list of people they weren't allowed to speak to, which I was on. Not that I minded this too much, but it was still weird to walk through the hall and say "Hey!" to someone and have them turn around and totally ignore you.
Everyone hates high school. If you don't hate high school, then that's going to be the high point in your life, which is sad.

High school was tumultuous for me, to say the least, because I had deep depression. I went into my first psychiatric hospital at the age of 16 during my junior year, and that kind of solidified me as the kid with emotional issues when I returned to class. Never, ever got picked on after that.Smile

Are you passing judgement on me because I didn't hate high school? I want to be clear on your meaning here, because it sounded to me like you were saying that I am a pathetic person because I didn't hate high school. Is that what you meant?

His asshole friends think I'm a narc even though my teacher found out who it was and I had nothing to do with it. (Luckily he only has like 2 friends that are seniors) The county put more regulations in my music classes which takes the fun out of it. This year I thought things would be different but it's clear they aren't.
Anyway, so now I'm the narc with a bunch of untrue shit said about him going to a high school filled with pseudo-intellectuals who smoke weed and have Ron Paul stickers to be cool. I know it could be worse but it really sucks when school is like that and you come home to arguments and yelling.
Anyone else have bad high school experiences?

It was last year... they really do fly by so quickly. It sucks to go through school with bad rumors about you... more terrible still when some of them are true. It really could be much more harrowing than that, so gain from the perspective it provides. Violent beatings are a gift to understand such pain. Starvation is a gift to appreciate a filled stomach. Rape is a gift to fathom the depths of powerlessness. Slavery is a gift to realize your freedom.

Regardless: don't wallow in self pity, you're not worthy of it unless you recognize that you are not worthy of your own pity. Be grateful you can comprehend such things, and *be all the stronger for it*. It's a horrid way to procure perspective... but if it's already happened then why not take whatever positive value out of the experience you can? Smile

Thanks Sae,
I've always felt like a perfect life with no troubles at all isn't truly life. I'll attempt to get something positive out of this experience.

Trust me pal, you'll never be 17 again. You have no idea what you currently hold in your hand. Don't let these stupid little problems blind you. The world is yours.

@OP

You know, even though my school years were pretty shitty for a variety of reasons that I'll not elaborate on here, I have to say I agree with Cinjin 100%. I wish I had continued with college and made the most of my educational opportunities. Instead, I left home at 17, still managed to finish high school, joined the army, did two years of junior college, and worked my ass off and today, 26 years after graduating high school, I've made a halfway decent career for myself. I made it harder for myself because of choices I made, and have succeeded in spite of my choices.

I was impatient to get out into the adult world, and my pride led me to do it on my own, without assistance from my parents or other family. I'm not suggesting that's the situation you're in, but rather that my experience might be something you can learn from.

It'd be nice to be able to go back and do it over again, this time with the wisdom learned through the school of hard knocks. If only I knew then what I know now...

The assholes that hassle you? Don't let them get to you (yeah, easier said than done, trust me, I know). Ignore them, laugh at their ignorance (even if only on the inside), stand up for yourself if you have to - but do not react. Above all, be true to and love yourself.

In a couple of years, you won't have to associate with them or anyone else you don't want to. It probably seems like a long time, but you will come through it stronger.

There are many assholes in the world, and while we cannot control what they do, we can control how we feel about it and how we feel about ourselves.

Follow your dreams, avail yourself of whatever educational opportunities you have, and don't let the bastards of the world keep you down or let anyone tell you you can't do it.
