He was thinking the US economy was good for it, but he failed to realize the magnitude of the stupidity that was Clinton's deregulation of the banking industry. Even had Bush acted like a total Democrat, the economy would still have slipped into recession, but instead of 2007, it may have started in 2008 or early 2009 at the latest.

Clinton didn't pay down the national debt at all. For a single year during the budget surplus he did. However the only presidential power over budgets is that of vetoing, the congress controls the budget. Other than that the debt increased by more than a trillion dollars during Clinton's presidency. It takes some pretty creative math to call that paying doubt the debt. What was he thinking? I think it improved a bit six months after Bush took office and was only halted by the costs of the conflict in Iraq.

Anyway, back on topic, this doesn't surprise me at all in terms of MSNBC. All those news organizations are crap, I mean you can like your bullshit left-wing flavor or right-wing flavor, but I've never really developed a taste for eating shit myself.

It was $6,657,400,000,000 before his presidency, and $9,817,000,000,000 afterwards. It increased by almost the exact same percentage as during George W. Bushes presidency and it went up every single year. I think you have the budget surplus confused with the debt. I actually fucked up my numbers initially and corrected them in my original post, but the point stands that Clinton didn't pay doubt the national debt at all. All of it is irrelevant anyway, we tend to think that the president is this entity with control over so much. He doesn't make or vote on budgets, his only say is with his veto stamp. It's a bit of irony when someone gives credit to Clinton for the one year of measley budget surplus, because they are unwittingly giving credit to the Republican congress at the time. Oh I give them credit because it also means I can give them credit for the financial collapse that surfaced under Bush.

Bias and misrepresentation is bad, regardless of whether the network supports Obama or Romney (or anyone else). It is completely irrelevant if Fox News do this...it's wrong, and MSNBC shouldn't be doing it either.
I realy find the concept of "opinion journalism" very disturbing. I dont have acess to eighter FOX News nor msnbc other than Bill O`Reilly`s midlifecrisis rants, Shawn Hannetys escape from reality, Olbermanns megalomeniac rants, and occasional brainfarts from the fashists Ann Colter and Limbaugh wich i can watch on youtube.
i did have regular access to british media and find the british print media culture to be revolting, i wouldn`t use the sun to whipe my ass, the guardian simply ignores facts wich dont fit into it`s political world view. But on the other hand i consider BBC News to be the best news channel in english language there is, it covers global storys, is objective and isn`t as silly as CNN, i watch BBC news each evening because of that. CNN to me seems to be to much addicted on sensationalism WAR ON CHRISTMAS! everything starts with WAR ON.. and they hardly ever do a detailed report in wich subjects are carefully analysed with detail, and rather stick to sensationalist stories for gore freaks, voyeurs and people who dont care about knowing any details. generaly the entire US TV media seems to be filled up with former winners of beauty contest winners, breast size seems to be a far more importent qualification for a job aplication on a american news channel or program rather than actual expirence as a journalist and other basic qualifications. when i first saw the glen beck show (back then i didn`t know fox news was a conservative channel) i thought it was a comedy show and my friends and i actualy looked forward to seeing his (what we thought were intentionaly) nonsence rants on youtube. journalism to me means to objectively analyse a current event and then present the facts to the general public. opinion is ones political view on the reason or solution of a curren problem or event. so to me the term "opinion journalism" is itself a oxymoron. german tv media is generaly objective, and if a anchor or other makes a comment it is clearly underlined wich political position he takes and a commentator of the oposition follows with his or her oposing comment. print media has it`s political outlets, "Die Bild Zeitung" germanys equivalent to the sun is a more or less toilet paper outlet wich is currently under fire in public after making up statistics to back up a politician who was a friend of the main editor last year, after german writer and winner of the nobel prize for literatur Günter Grass puplicly stated that he refuses to give a interview due to the lack of actual journalism, and after it was revealed that since almoust it started to exist it made up stories to sell copies. but the 4 other major outlets Die Zeit, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine and Der Spiegel are all objective. i would go so far as to say that we germans have the best print media in the world in terms of objectivity and honesty. |
