One of the stupidest fucking replies ever.
Quote:Have you ever seen the dinosaurs? Have you been here for 4.6 million years? No. Idc how much evidence you have, if you haven't applied the five senses to the subject/object you're not sure. Just like Consciousness, we truly don't know what it is sir, but you have faith that it exists because it makes sense. I have faith in Creationism because it makes sense. Your parents have clearly failed you, by letting you believe in an assumption that suggest that a man and a worm are similar.

This comment was sent, not replied to but actually sent to me on youtube when this individual, one "kingnollid" became a target of my contempt and derision for attempting to justify and square-off creationism as a valid school of thought and I informed him that his parents had failed him for instilling this regimented system of bullshit in him. Oh no worries, I gave logical and rational discourse as to WHY he was wrong.

This is fucking ridiculous. The fact that people not only believe this shit but openly admit that they believe in it without any basis in fact is fucking disturbing. I literally feel revolted by this kind of shit. I half expect to click on the news and hear about some psychopath like this guy gunning down innocent civilians from a clocktower, I really do.

I can't pretend to be the most rational individual here; I am still struggling to overthrow emotionally biased, personally-held opinions while attempting to adopt clear, cool-headed rational points. But even I can look at this kind of shit and just do a double-take at how someone not only doesn't accept rationality but outright throws it out the fucking window in exchange for what is basically believing something "just because." And I know why they do it! They do it under the guise of "questioning everything," or so they claim, but yet they accept the words of men without substantiation and accept it as absolute, unquestionable fact without even questioning its origins! Such fucking solipsism! And they don't even care to acknowledge it as such! They disguise it as being reasonable when it is anything but!

This is how it is with anyone of any religion. I'm sorry but if you believe in any mass-produced form of religion, you can claim up and down all you want that you are more reasonable than these creationist fuckwits but in truth you're better by a level of margin that is measured only decimal points and nothing more.

Ridiculous. Ignorance...it knows no bounds, truly.

I didn't feel much of anything besides utter contempt when I read it, along with shocking disbelief at how stupid and irrational some people can be. I just felt I should share such lunacy with everyone else here so we can all have a dark, cynical laugh at it, because, fuck, we're surrounded by this shit, and what the hell else can we do besides laugh raucously at it? Granted, it's a laugh similar to when faced with a hopeless, idiotic problem that cannot be fixed because someone else fucked it up for you already, but...

I think the original comment makes a valid point about the limit of human knowledge. Both sensual perception and theoretical reasoning, while valuable to a point, cannot ultimately help us achieve absolute knowledge. The human capacity for truth and knowledge is inherently limited.

I think better than being outraged by these points, you should be humble to them. Aren't good scientists supposed to be humble by things they don't know? You may have some ideas about dinosaurs, and they may be reasonable and based on evidence, but they're certainly not sure the way your day-to-day experience is. Why not admit that? Does it make you insecure that your point of view is not absolutely and ultimately provable?

Modern science accepts sensory perception and theoretical reasoning as the most reliable means of knowledge. But how do we know these means produce actual knowledge? To argue based on those means is circular reasoning. To accept these means of knowledge as "self-evident" puts you in the same class as the religionists you violently reject.

I accept Veda, transcendental knowledge, as the highest authority for absolute knowledge. If I want evidence about the nature of existence, I consider the "evidence" of modern science inferior to the evidence of veda.

Around here, creationism is frowned at even by the religious people.
Come on, even the goddamn catholic church has admitted that evolution is right. If the wielder of the most religious power in the world acknowledges that something in science supersedes what is in their holy book, then why would any other religious nut keep standing by that book's account?

Dare I go there......

I fear the inevitable descent into madness.

On our senses possibly not being good enough to determine true knowledge:

I dunno... I look at humanity and what it has achieved and can only imagine that it was not dumb luck that e.g. certain particles in rocks accidentally got put in a crusher, thrown in a solution and was allowed to separate into muck and useful metals, accidentally thrown into furnaces, moulded into arbitrary shapes resembling something we apparently call "rockets", filled with an arbitrary solution of stuff that, by coincidence, likes to go "bang" and after all these arbitrary guesses as to how nature works, the clump of metal made it to another planet.

I'd say although we could be limited by our senses, we still damn well know enough to get by and are even able prod at our surroundings to understand those better.

No, it doesn't. It makes an incredibly stupid point.

And how exactly do you even know there is something like absolute knowledge? Magic?

I have never encountered any limits. Can you tell me where they are?

Humility in face of stupidity posturing as wisdom is a sure indication of your own ignorance.

Actually, they do admit it. That doesn't they have to give any credibility to the farcical claims of religion.

(October 16, 2012 at 6:50 am)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: Does it make you insecure that your point of view is not absolutely and ultimately provable?

On the contrary, our security comes from the fact that even if we turn out to be wrong, we can correct ourselves. That is what intellectual honesty is all about. Unlike you. You have to believe that your Vedas are absolutely and ultimately correct - though they are not provable in the slightest and in fact have been disproven to a great extent - because when you accepted them as the authority, you let go of your rational faculties - which is the only means of correction.

(October 16, 2012 at 6:50 am)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: Modern science accepts sensory perception and theoretical reasoning as the most reliable means of knowledge. But how do we know these means produce actual knowledge?

Because that is the definition of knowledge. If you have neither, you cannot know anything.

Not even close. Claiming something as self-evident and that thing actually being self-evident are two different things.

Suppose I go into a dark room and say to the person inside, "The sun has risen. Come out!" The person in darkness may say, "Where is the proof that there is light? First prove it to me; then I will come out." I may plead with him, "Please, please, just come out and see." But if he does not come out to see, he remains ignorant, waiting for proof. So, if you simply read Bhagavad-gita you will see everything. Come and see. Here is the proof.
