Is atheism a liberating and good experience?

RE: Is atheism a liberating and good experience?
You can choose to look at life in one of two ways...

1. Life is a bitch and then we rot in the ground.

2. Life is amazing and the thought of it ending makes every second that bit more valuable.

Whichever way you choose to look at shit, I don't really find it has a whole lot to do with atheism. A god existing doesn't necessarily = purpose. Likewise a god not existing doesn't necessarily = no purpose.

Just face reality man, if you want to go on a downer because of that then it's your own issue. Personally I live safe in the knowledge I wont be here forever, but hey, no one else will be either.

*edit* I have no fucking idea if what I just said is off topic or not.

*edit2* I edited some shit to make it more relevant, don't know why I went off on one about life after death, I guess it's kinda relevant, whatever, I'll shut up now.

I find this thread fascinating because I can't actually understand why certain people feel so horrible when they realize that their life isn't essential to the universe.

So the world is not tailored to your desires: what's so scary about it? It simply means that in order to get something, you have to work for it, and you can't expect miracles to happen (they don't). So you're going to die one day. So are we. Nobody can avoid death, we're all in the same boat. The important thing is not your death, but your life. Enjoy it while you can.

There's also a third way: life can be a bitch, but it can also be amazing. Cherish the good stuff and forget about the bad stuff.

Yeah, the death part doesn't scare me. Dying is perfectly understandable though.

*edit* and I knew someone would pick up that I'm limiting the options Tongue

When I began re-reading HP Lovecraft, I realized that was why I didn't find most of his stories frightening. I had already gotten used to the idea of cosmic indifference to us. But his stories like Rats in the Walls? Terrifying.

Lovercraft is scary because in his stories there are god-like creatures waiting to eat us all. An empty universe is not as scary, at least IMHO.

Lovecraft was equally as scary because we weren't essential to the universe, but created as a joke.

But I concede your point in half-measure.

Taking a piss in the morning is a liberating expirience.

Atheism.......... is a mindest, a way of thinking.

I find Sartre's "The Wall" to be the perfect personal horror story.

This should be put on a laminated piece of paper and distributed worldwide.
