Teen critically injured after accidentally shooting himself in head

Investigators believe the teen was mishandling the gun when it was discharged. His friends who witnessed the shooting were not injured.

KENS 5 has learned the gun was given to the teen by his father. It reportedly is a firearm passed down throughout the family. Police said the teen's parents were at home at the time of the shooting.

For all the hooplaabout gun rights, why do the police think they can shoot people just for carrying a gun. No due process. some of these guns are turning out to bbe tows.Why is the NRA so selective in protecting the rights of serial killers and mass murderers but ignoring violations against the rights of law abiding citizens?

I'm not arguing for gun rights, but let's have some equal protection under the law here.

Not about legal vs illegal. Plenty of people buy guns with no record at the time of purchase because of current law but fly under the radar and still end up injuring or or killing themselves or someone in the home/neighborhood. The good guy with a gun is a myth. Most gun users, including those who have no record at the time of purchase don't understand the difference between hitting a target, and hitting the right target under crisis/stress use of a gun. Most people simply buy them stupidly thinking nothing bad will ever happen because they have no record.

Law enforcement Pete Blair whose job it is to train police to shoot under crisis situations is a "good guy with a gun" who says most people DON'T understand that it isn't simply about hitting a target. And the successful "good guy" in public crisis civilian stopping a bad guy is a mere 3%. That is based on an FBI report based on data going back to 2002.

But you see, Brian, each nut with a gun thinks he will be one of the 3%.  It's pretty the same thing as 85% of drivers think they are above average.

People are fucking stupid. 

That's why they shouldn't have guns.... and a lot of them shouldn't have cars.  But at least we regulate cars.

Jefferson County boy, 4, shoots self in groin with grandfather's handgun

The adults thought the boy had gone to sleep in his room when they heard a gunshot. Investigators believe the child was wandering around the home when he found the gun in the bathroom, took it into a bedroom and began playing with it.
