So daddy was taking a shower while his little girl played with his gun and blew her head off. But Louisiana authorities decided not to charge him because, WTF, it was just an accident. But in your case, mom is sitting right there when the one kid grabs the gun and shoots the other and that becomes a criminal case of Cruelty to Juveniles? Under Louisiana law 14:93 said law means "(1) The intentional or criminally negligent mistreatment or neglect by anyone seventeen years of age or older of any child under the age of seventeen whereby unjustifiable pain or suffering is caused to said child."
So what could the difference be? Yes, what could the difference be in fucking Louisiana?

I think it should be a crime to leave a loaded handgun where a child could easily get it and shoot someone. And I don't trust "I could leave my gun on the coffee table and my children won't touch it."

Sometimes it's a misdemeanor, sometimes a felony, sometimes it can go from being a misdemeanor to being a felony...you know, when kids get shot. We just have a selective failure to prosecute.

I can't imagine being so stupid as a kid to pick up a gun and shoot it. And my dad used to keep it on a stand some nights. It never even crossed my mind to play with it, lol, and not just because they told me not to.
I agree they shouldn't leave it out in the open, but still. What if those kids that get in those accidents are the same ones that would've done the same growing up, more or less? Horrible thought, worth a mention. I was a kid too once, and I wasn't so fucking retarded to play with a gun. Unless at the shooting range and given permission.
