Ah, GunFail has returned with a discussion of shitheads with guns in just the first week of 2017.  59 incidents.  Going to be a long year.

This week’s list, covering the first seven days of the year, identifies 20 separate incidents of celebratory gunfire-related GunFAIL, including two fatalities and another 10 injuries. In fact, we saw our first child under 15 years of age accidentally shot to death just six minutes into the new year. Eighteen people accidentally fired their weapons into the homes or property of neighbors. Sixteen people accidentally shot themselves. Six people accidentally fired weapons they were cleaning, and five people accidentally shot family members. In other words, a pretty typical week, with the added bonus of hundreds of people across the country still not getting the message that firing their guns in the air is a spectacularly bad idea.

Meanwhile here in NC crickets from the asshole NRA when the Black Panthers want to participate in the First Amendment and 2nd Amendment. No, I still don't believe anyone should be carrying firearms out in public. NO that does not mean I want a ban on all firearms. But the lack of the NRA sticking up for them proves, this is NOT about guns, but about using race to divide and act as a heat shield to protect an industry that loves the fear that allows our flooded market.

There is no political party oath or religious oath or skin tone oath to LEGALLY own a firearm. Nor should there be. But that is not what the NRA or gun industry defends. They are nothing but fucking greedy asssholes who use issues of religion and race to PROTECT PROFITS at the expense of black lives and cops lives and the lives of even whites whom commit suicide, or murder their spouses, or leave them out to where kids get hurt, or mentally ill get a hold of them.

NRA are fucking Daffy Duck whom pits the beagle against Foghorn to sell them booby traps. NRA creates needless divisions among religious right and left and blacks and whites and cops. FUCK THE NRA!

5-year-old girl dead in 'unfortunate accidental' shooting

The 8-year-old got a hold of a handgun and fired one shot, striking both the 5-year-old and 4-year-old. The girl died, and the boy is hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

"I can't tell you where the gun was or how that child got access to it.  Responsible gun owners should be securing their weapons, locking them up, making sure children don't have access to them or for that matter anyone else in the home", said Chief Butler.

But what about "freedom," Chief?

That sort of "freedom" is illegal.....honestly I don't know why he's even babbling about responsible gun owners.  Irresponsible gun owners don't point the business end to the ground while clearing their piece.....it's -criminal- gun owners that leave them where and in such a state that a child can get access and shoot someone.

I don't, we've been using the term as a pregame legal defense for too long.  We refuse to call them criminals...even law enforcement routinely fails to categorize their actions as such, preferring..instead, the softer term -irresponsible.  We do not prosecute them to the the fullest extent of the law, and there's a sense..especially when the dead kids are their own, that they've already been "punished enough".  All of this directly enables the behavior in the first place.

Most people, and dangerously..gun owners, are completely unaware of such laws...considering the manner in which they store their firearms to be one of "personal responsibility" rather than legality. A metric which each and every one of these guys inevitably considers themselves an exemplar of.

For plenty of them, putting a loaded pistol under their mattress and telling their kids not to go into mommy and daddys room satisfies the "personal responsibility" portion of the perceived arrangement.
