If a baseball bat is for use at the baseball field, why are they needed in the home? If knives are for cutting steak, why does anyone ever carry one?

So is a gun free zone, as A Theist so helpfully points out just a place where a sign is stuck up. And as such of no meaning and therefore any statistics drawn of more or less crime in that area of no value whatsoever?

They have value. They prove that criminals read "gun-free zone" as "unarmed sucker zone".

But, A Theist tells me he has his guns to use against criminals, and if I want to protect my family I should have one too. That does not sound like it is being kept for just target practice. Tibs implies you should practice with targets so you can shoot the criminal. So what is the gun for?

That's just one of the reasons. Some people practice to hone their hunting skills, some to compete, and some just because they have an interest in firearms and like to use them (in a non-violent manner).

I have a gun in my house for home defense....you say that you have no want for one, that's fine for you....but what business is it of someone who lives in the uk and elsewhere in europe, that myself or any other U.S. citizen chooses to own a gun and use it for home defense or target practice?

That's something I've found amusing is how British people scoff and snicker and say "banning all guns will cure America of ALL of its criminal ills! We ought to know, we banned guns and it made things better! ...Wait it made things WORSE? hm! Best not take note of that little statistical anomaly! They're Americans, they won't know the difference!"
Except we do, because like how the stereotype that all Brits have jagged buck-teeth and are named Nigel is false, so is the stereotype that all Americans are idiots.
