too rich?

RE: too rich?
Mr T I would encourage you to take what is yours. Is it not part of your dogma that to hide the talents in a hole in the ground is a sin.

Who's judging? I just want the money!

Well, you said you love rich people... it just seems like an odd thing to say. Tongue

I don't care for money that much anyway, so you can have all of mine if you want.

Well sure! Thanks! If you have extra to spare, I'll take it! My pockets are deep and my arms are too short!

Not me johnny b! No amount of talents I have is going in the ground! I'm going to take it and spend it! Wink

RE: too rich?
Obviously you can be too rich, if you're talking about money or some other forms of resources that you can have excessively to yourself, beyond what you can reasonably control. It's sad that it requires an argument and I can't be arsed to expound my position. Oh well.

Basically it involves explaining the old cliches that power corrupts... and of course money is a form of power....blah, blah blah, blah blah.... blah blah blah blah blah.

You can be too "free", you can have too much "freedom", in practice, in my opinion. In theory though, no, because freedom is defined as a "good thing", generally at least.... but I guess that all depends on whether you consider the connotation part of the definition!

Too much "safety"? Once again, not in theory, no, but in practice, yes.... if it stops you taking risks....

...or if it leads to you making such an effort to be "careful" or "double check" things that you start to worry excessively, get anxiety, or even develop an anxiety disorder.

Same with "happiness".... in theory, if... if.... IF everyone was happy from the beginning of the existence of every single sentient living thing capable of emotional consciousness ever and if...IF... that continued until the end of all aforementioned sentient living things capable of emotional consciousness... THEN there is no problem IN THEORY.....

However, in practice.... so-called "too much happiness" can lead to chaos, losing control and bad emotional, psychological, physical health and general folly/foolishness/lack of wisdom...

...in my opinion. No one needs to agree obviously.

By the way, I'm currently rich in happiness I reckon.... money wise however, not so much.... however I don't currently consider myself to have "not enough money" because I am currently happy and coping and I wish to live mostly "in the present moment"... or rather, my own very recently remembered past, or my own very recent attempt to predict my near future creatively and/or logically.

I am also not currently "too rich" in happiness.

Good economically that is the right thing to do as it encourages the circulation of money. It is the burying of money in the ground in your dogma, or the siphoning away of wealth into assets which is bringing the system down. So we are in agreement old sweet!

It's easy to justify hoarding money when you convince yourself that everyone that isn't rich is simply lazy.

Yep...you are a typical fine xtian.

But of course, to shits like you being a xtian is merely an excuse to hate non-xtians.

I guess that's the difference between you and me. One of the first things I'd do is try to set up charities to help other people in need. Isn't it a little odd when an atheist follows Jesus words better than a Christian does? All those parts where Jesus commands us to have compassion for the poor and specifically says it's easier to get a camel through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into heaven? Yeah, from the looks of things, Jesus is happier with me than he is with the Republican party.

Oh Yeah! I don't see those parts in the Bible anywhere!

I cannot avoid the thought, if they don't sort this out themselves, it is time to make them pay.
That's simply not true at all. Firstly, because when has any tax ever all gone towards helping the poor? Never. An extra 25% tax on anyone would mostly go towards what the government sees as the most important priorities; namely, the military and themselves.

Secondly, it would be massively unfair to tax anyone just because they have the money to do something. If we allow that, why stop there? Why not continue to tax them to get rid of the deficit, or tax them to bail out "too big to fail" companies? Where does it stop? Clue: it doesn't. Give a government that precedent, and it will only end in abuse.

Thirdly, those people have already paid tax on what they earned. If you want the rich to pay more tax, start by closing tax loopholes, because whilst they are open, anyone (and I mean rich or poor) will try to avoid paying tax. Or how about this for an idea: encourage the wealthy to be philanthropic with their money. The top 100 wealthiest people presumably includes Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, who have both contributed vast amounts of wealth back into society to try and help the less fortunate. Taking an extra 25% in tax from them is pointless when they have more evidence of their philanthropy than the government could ever hope to achieve.
