RE: Psychological research - Atheists, Christians and quality of life

I think it'd be cool for a study to be done on these happiness and outlook levels before and after conversion or deconversion? And also compare that to baseline lifelong athiests?
Because when I was a believer I was told via theistic outlook along with evident societal representation, that athiests are unhappy. But whenever I would see them in my daily life, they would be quite the opposite.
I wish science could dispel all the illusions put out there through bias.
Oh please do post the results btw, I'm sorta interested
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

i think the problem with the test is that the purpose is stated from the begining, to judge the qualities of life, a comparison between atheists and religious people, maybe im just cynical about this but i think a lot of atheists might think "ill show those religious people i can be happy without god!" and a lot of religious people will think "ill show those atheists how amazingly happy the power of god has made me"
I like to think i answered the questions pretty honestly though
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

That is a good point. I tried to write an introduction which informs the participants what the research is dealing with, without giving away too much detail. The ethics board is big on the idea of "informed consent" and not hiding too much from the participants.
Thanks for answering honestly though!

That would be an interesting study, but I imagine it might not be all that reliable to ask people to try and remember their happiness levels before conversion/deconversion. They might give a skewed answer depending on their happiness at that point in time.
I do think it's a good idea though, and you should read some of the research on the happiness of atheistic and theistic individuals. It's quite fascinating! Particularly, as you say, the difference between how things really are, and how some individuals claim they are.
I will post the results once they're complete, that's no problem.
