Should we respect Religion?
#21
RE: Should we respect Religion?
I respect people but not their beliefs.

I'm not telling everytime : your religion is stupid, you god doesn't exists, blablabla, and I can have a discussion about the bible, the quran, without telling people about truth, or violence, etc.

But if they ask me what I think about religion, I tell them that is a way to control people, to explain what we didn't understand, that the bible and the quran are full of craps, violence, against women, etc etc.

RE: Should we respect Religion?
As long as religious followers practice their faith and don't try to shove it down other people's throats or use their faith to try and justify meddling in politics or justify brutality and intolerance I've got nothing wrong with it.....sadly though very few religions have done so. Wicca for one, though it may be a bit hokey to some, at least stresses the practice "harm none" and seems to have a very live and let live philosophy, if only more religions could be more like that.
~*~Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behavior does ~*~

~*~Live a good life. If there are Gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are Gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no Gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones - Marcus Aurelius~*~

Wiccans are not as benign as you think then. Binding spells, love spells, and a few others come to mind. While the perpertrator thinks "harm none", I think it is just how they justify to themselves the attempted control of others.

How are you expecting them to do that? Shall I prove it by delivering OJ's head on a silver platter? How about by hexing you with bad luck and a love for little girls? Maybe you'd like a full demonic possession?

Somehow, I really fucking doubt it Tongue Either you will accept it as true, or you will die believing it was not true and justifying your position against it on luck and lust and a murderous fanatic until the demon takes over your body.

For the right price.

I should note though, that spells like that should be made with a pure heart (for example, a genuine desire for that person to have a conscience)... because if it's made off of revenge, a lot can go wrong.

You don't strike me as the vengeful type, but I don't know everything Tiger

I believe we shouldn't have to show religion any respect, it seems they do not respect athiests, because they largely disagree with our beliefs. However, Athiests too have the opposing view of relious people so why should we have to respect them just because its 'politically correct'?
