I fucking despise religion

I'll give you Charlemagne though I'm sure he would have been carving out some kind of an empire and killing people who disagreed with him anyway whether he was a Christian or not. I'm just saying Christianity didn't spread by a series of military conquests but was largely peaceful missionary work with a some political motivation. Most areas benefited from it, it introduced the written word and literacy, legal systems the first stone buildings in the form of churches, it put a stop to human sacrifice and various superstitious practices. I suppose Islam brought some degree of progress during it's golden era, even if it doesn't really bring much progress now.
