When people say Obama is an atheist, it is because they can't stand to imagine a reasonable man is also a Christian, in my opinion. It's a fair enough assumption, but an assumption, nonetheless. All being Christian is is adopting a label. Obama has adopted that label. Therefore, he is Christian.

Could Barack Obama be an Atheist?

Maybe there's just something about Obama that makes everyone want to think he's not a Christian.

I think he is too rational for someone believing in fairy tales.

"Lighthouses are more helpful then churches."
Benjamin Franklin
There are scientists who are Christians. It's just off-putting for me. When it comes to religion, I take a person's word for it. There are absolutely no outward signs that are a guarantee a person is non-religious, apart from a declaration of such.
Scientists can get away with being Christian. Politicians, especially on that level, certainly can't get away with not being Christian. Not yet, anyway.
I know that proves not a single thing, but it's something to bear in mind. RE: Could Barack Obama be an Atheist?

*or is he not in control of the drones? Are they just killing whoever looks at the sky funnily?

I agree that there is a popular stereotype among atheists that Christians can't be intelligent or well informed or because of some other shortcoming. I take it that you, like me, also think that isn't true. There is no reason Obama or any other intelligent person can't also be a Christian. Of course there is a reason for the stereotype and we've all heard lots of Christians say some pretty naive things. I find the thought intriguing that someone as interested in the public good as Obama would find a way to deal with religion if he does not believe in the magic bits. While I don't at all think that he must be an atheist, I'd be very curious to know what he does think about religion.
What I do know is that he doesn't think it is important to his office, as he does not talk about often. He talks about what actually is important. That is all I need to know, as far as the president goes.

Plenty of self confessed Christians are pretty rational people, who take a very allegorical interpretation of the bible. Of course the "bible believers" will accuse them of being not Christians.

Or you can assume that Obama is not reasonable. Considering that he's continued plunging the nation into debt, borrowing money, bombing foreign countries and persecuting people who grow pot for sick people, it could easily be assumed that he's not reasonable. |
