I've been a windows guy for a lot of time.... For personal use, games, etc, windows just works.... since XP, at least! Wink

At work, I've had winXP, however I often need to interact with linux servers, so I recently switched to linux there.... The idea was to keep something similar to redHat. Tried CentOS first, because a mate is using it.... Found that it's a retarded linux distro (still stuck in Firefox 10).... so I switched to Fedora core 18.
Damn Gnome3 is messed up and required a lot of tweaking to make it behave... And yes, I've had to reboot the damn linux a bunch of times. By default it comes with the crappy tigerVNC, I installed RealVNC and I'm still trying to keep it behaving properly... Sometime it just gets screwed up claiming all VNC windows are taken, when none is... and a million other details which don't "just work" and require some attention.
On the other hand, it was freakishly simple to get apache to work, as well as mediawiki (with MySQL, PHP, etc), sshd...
Also, "ssh -X" just works!, unlike in windows, where I had to use Xming.

Vista sucked and it still does with 500MB of memory, lots of budget systems sold with that spec.
With 1GB perhaps it may be bearable after the first or second service pack.
With 4GB and service pack 2 it was OK.

Why? I've heard a few people say that, but I've found Mountain Lion to be much better than Snow Leopard.

Try Linux Mint one day. I've always preferred Debian-based distros.

Windows 7 is pretty damn decent - hoping that I can snag a PC before they stop offering them with Win7 installed.

First off 'The Best' it the best for you. Your best is going to be different from everybody else. There is no such this as the best, but we can all agreed there is a worst.
My personal preference is Windows 7.

That's me Tiger

I'm an OSX lover, and I'm technologically inept... so my ability to game on Mac without frustration is very limited. My vote, as a result of 'ease of gaming', has to go to Windows.

So... while you're technically right about level of education in operating systems and security, you're being somewhat misleading about why people think Windows is the best Wink It usually has to do with 'I grew up on it' or 'gaming' or 'everyone uses it, so it's easy to work with'.

Quote:2) Whilst I love Mac OS X and generally find it a very easy-to-use and configurable OS, it does have its annoyances. Most of these are alleviated by installing other programs, such as Homebrew/MacPorts (which allows you to compile / use a load of Linux programs). One thing I would say about OS X is that is it by far the most stable OS I have ever encountered. Linux server doesn't really count, since it doesn't have to do anything graphical, and anyone who has used Linux extensively knows how dodgy Linux is with graphical stuff.

No blue screen, all the lovely key commands, and it looks pretty. But, alas... gaming Sad

Quote:So there you go. I choose not to use the best OS because I prefer something that is easy to use. Besides, I have Linux installed in virtual machines on my laptops that I can use at any time (oh yeah, and unlike Windows VMs they don't take up ridiculous system resources). Plus, atheistforums.org runs on Linux and I wouldn't run it off anything else.

Basically... Tiberius is just vouching for safe sex as the best, because he's okay with a little inconvenience when the tradeoff is a significantly reduced chance of viruses and other 'bad' things.

I have both OS X and Win7 on my Mac. I use Win7 to play old games. And OS X for everything else. I can’t stand Windows constantly nagging me with dialogues and warnings.
