My definition of 'race' was finalized when i first played Master of Orion 10 years ago I've tried to shift it to the real one, but i just can't do it.
Of course it is immoral... and i despise how common it is as well

It's another form of prejudice yes, although I don't think it's quite as bad, because race is a more physical thing so it's even closer to the person, even more personal. Not something anyone should be able to 'attack'.
I mean like, if some Brits and French are prejudice to each other because they're a different country, that's not prejudice between races because there are a mixture of races in Britain and France. Right?
Or have I misunderstood you or something?
@ bozo, I think racism is a particularly nasty form of bigotry. Bigotry is a very broad thing indeed.

I agree racism is worse but bigotry is not nice either.
A man is born to a virgin mother, lives, dies, comes alive again and then disappears into the clouds to become his Dad. How likely is that?

@ Saerules, I know, it's just hard not to state the obvious lol.
@ bozo, yeah I agree racism is worse but bigotry isn't nice. But I'd say the rest of bigotry isn't quite as bad. The rest. Because as I said, I think racism is just a particularly nasty form of bigotry. Racism is a display of bigotry if I've ever seen one.

Bigotry, racism, it's a pretty close race to me. Both are unacceptable. Unfortunately, as long as people are different, both will exist

It's certainly motivated by fear, but also the urge to oppress others that are different in general I think.
In some cases perhaps it could not be motivated by fear, but just a desire to control others, for instance. Highly immoral.

True, revision: so long as people are afraid of difference, or want to control difference: bigotry will never be conquered.

So how did we get from being liberal to being racist?

@ Saerules Yeah, sorry, I'm a pedantic bastard lol. I like being thorough and exposing gaps. I always do this, so I'm not showing off lol. It's not clever, it's just pedantry.
It's motivated by inquisitiveness though And a whole lot of analysing.
I fucking love philosophy, but I follow no specific philosophy
@ Binny, perhaps because racism is kind of on the opposite side of the corn? No idea really...I'd have to re-read the whole thread.

Dlf
Oh no, it was justified. I forgot about that primary motivator
