I think the worst thing isn't dealing with Theists, it's hearing "Atheists can be just as radical as the religious." from wishy washy intellectual morons who self-identify as spiritual.
talking to catholics
Not being able to worship.
Why do I miss worship? Well worship is just higher degree of honouring which is a higher degree of praising which is a higher degree of valuing. And it felt delightful to value "The Greatest possible being", and it felt delightful believing such a being had such immense praiseworthiness. The perception of "earned praise is greater then unearned praised" just took away that immense love I had and a conversation with Rhythm has left me agnostic about the whole issue. Logically, love of the greatest being would be a more immense love then all other loves. Love obviously is a good feeling, but it's specially delightful when it's towards what you believe is the most praiseworthy being. The worst thing about being an atheist is that I cannot blame the devil for my own shortcomings. Instead, I take personal responsibility.

I really see no difference with this. The Devil was suppose to suggest you bad thoughts but was never suppose to have control over your decision...now I realize either bad thoughts come from within the mind or mind/soul...and a lot of it is enticed by society/TV/Music/culture...we still have to battle with the lower self, it's just that Satan is not part of the equation. So what's the difference if bad thoughts are coming from biological/cultural forces or if they are coming from the lower self in the soul/mind or if they are coming from soul/mind + devil? It's not like we have full control over all what we are going to get suggested. We might see a hot women and feel enticed to her even if we are married, we then have to resist temptation. What's the difference if that thought comes from within us but is not within our control or from Satan? We have to resist each and for both we have to learn to ignore bad suggestions.
When I was an atheist, the worst thing for me was waking up and feeling like life had no meaning or value, and feeling depressed, really depressed and not having anything to live for or care about, and realizing as soon as I did start to care about or hope for anything, it was worthless and meaningless, had no value other than to serve the society that I lived in which I care for very little.

Strange. I have absolutely never had that experience in my fifty years as an atheist. Maybe it had nothing to do with atheism. |
