It's also a product that the people involved were willing to buy. The price of peace of mind. More interestingly, there was an assumption of reciprocity involved ( a common thought of ours) with regards to what things the gods might gift one in return. Sometimes it seems to have gotten pretty specific - especially here with our natives, "give this get that in return at x value in trade - remember to up-gift".
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. ALL people like feeling "safe" is what I'm thinking. Otherwise why have religion and governments, tribes and races at all?

I find that most people aren't against it philosophically but if it is put alongside the fact that it would allow religious people like the Mormons to marry multiple wives then there can be an irrational knee jerk reaction against polygamy/polyandry as a whole because people can tend to think if it is from a religion then it is bad.
If many women wish to share on man that is their business. The objections to polygamy always seem to take the point of view that the men collect the women like it or not. Maybe it goes back to the beginning when men paid the fathers and the daughters had no choice.
The US rejection of it was not because it was unbiblical but because the Christians adopted Roman monogamy.

White people like feeling safe. Well......sometimes certain whiteys made offerings to ensure a good death in pitched battle...so, peace of mind and safety aren't always the same (though I suppose, given said certain whiteys stance on potential afterlives, death in battle was the safe option, relative to the alternatives).
Here again to invoke our natives, a horrific practice of valuing captives in battle as gift fodder to increase the group spiritual power of a tribe also offered a saftey net to warriors (ensuring that they could be captured, gifted- and re-enter the fray on the other side - as well as captured women and children being provided some measure of safety by the same. It's an amusing practice because at the heart of it gifting is assigned as a spiritual currency, so gifts are exceedingly selfish...and then captives can be gifted, which is horrendous on the one hand but better than death on the other...it gets really fun.)

It's been my opinion for a while that Roman thought is all too pervasive in Christianity, and thus in the US by extension.
I'd say that it's also none of our business if many men want to share a woman.

They like feeling "in control," then.

So do women like to feel safe. What does that negate?

Or conversely if many women want to share a man, or many men want to share many women. IF they are after all are consenting adults, it is none of your business and there should be financial laws capable of covering such situations.

More than a few women make a great living doing that.
I dislike the constant implication of a male only perspective in these discussions.

When someone throws in "white male" you know there is some king of agenda involved. I was pointing out it should not be used that way.
