So, why are we here .. on this forum?

1. I found that there are many interesting topics being discussed here (both religious and non-religious).

2. I post here mainly to make people understand my religion better, since I know that there is almost a zero chance that anyone is going to actually convert (although such a thing is not impossible either). Either way, I have nothing to lose by staying here, do I? At least I can learn more about atheism and other religions as well as science, philosophy, and other topics of my interest.

3. I think that I'm fairly intelligent and a creative thinker - and I haven't talked about some of my other crazier ideas - which means that I have more threads to make (on topics like the soul, afterlife, the nature of God, and stuff like this). You'll see them as time goes on and that's why I'm still here. I don't want to keep all these ideas to myself. So, I like to share them with others because it gets more interesting that way.

4. Sometimes, I come here to pass the time when I have nothing else to do at home. I'm also a member of an Islamic forum (where I'm a moderator as well), but I also like to talk to people with opposing views as well, hence I joined this forum.

5. I can talk to members who have a variety of beliefs (atheists, deists, agnostics, Christians, etc). Some also have interesting personalities, some are witty and intelligent, and some are crazy enough to declare themselves as gods or goddesses and rulers of the universe and even write their own book of laws. (By the way, I was an atheist myself one time, which I also said in my intro thread, so I pretty much know why atheists are atheists).

On the other hand, I know that there's going to be a lot of mockery, hatred, and bitterness in this forum no matter what. But, the good this is that I get over these things very quickly. They don't bother me. Sometimes, I even laugh at comments which other Muslims might get very angry reading them.

Those are some of the reasons that I come to this forum which I wrote in an earlier (and similar) thread, at the link below:

Why are we here?
To chat, learn, try to teach... get frustrated, laugh... forum stuff! Smile
I came looking for the arguments of believers for maintaining their belief and to see how they could be countered.... while trying to counter them myself.
All this because I've met a priest, catholic, Opus Dei, who wanted to talk with me... to help me with any doubts I had... well, I figured I should learn what it is he could possibly tell me and be prepared to tell him how things are in the real world.
I've learned of Pascal's Wager, logical falacies (strawman and red herring seem to be the most common), quantum fluctuations, some History and possibly some other things while here on this forum.... thanks to all for that! Smile

Unfortunately, the priest had a serious health problem and is no more among us.... Yet, here I remain... peace!

And your aim is usually good as well as funny. I think your mission is to shake theists hard enough to make them question their own definition of them selves as "the good people" .. oh, and to piss them off.

I came here because I used to have interesting conversations with my friends who were all non-religious, but as we got older we all moved our separate ways and don't talk very often. I came here looking for those same type of conversations and was quite pleased with what I found.

Plus, it is so cathartic as an American atheist to talk to like-minded people. It's not that people are overtly pushing their beliefs in my face, but religion has a huge impact on our culture. It's nice to have a group of people to whom I can say, "So, how about that silly god shit?"

I think it is also cathartic to tell some pompous idiot thumping a bible and warning us of hell fire that they just aren't all that.

I have no friends. Certainly no friends that want to talk about anything that is discussed on here. I like that people on here have the balls to disagree passionately and not have hard feelings towards each other afterwards. I think anger and passion get mistaken for one another.

Fuck having a mission free roam is far more fun.

I'm always looking for some counterpoint to my appraisal of religion and the religious. A redemptive claim, lol. There used to be people in my life who could hold a conversation about religious faith (it's history, it's myriad incarnations, it's value) without any of the garbage we so often see attached - and I'm always looking to recapture that. I've also had a recent god infusion into my family - and so it's become an issue that talking about to friends and loved ones (who are pretty much entirely family in both categories at this point) has become a no-no.

That and I can't fucking stand to read the ridiculous shit that people whose education completely failed them write about topics in biology and anthropology - particularly. It's either here or at the top of my lungs to the next douche in the walmart with a pamphlet - and I have to go back to said walmart to buy diapers.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. That can really be irritating. Sometimes people who believe they have god on speed dialing act as though books and education are superfluous when you can just ask the big guy for the answer. Others wrap themselves with the cloak of humbleness, positioning themselves for inheriting the earth an all that. There just aren't good reasons for remaining a dumb ass.
